This is a remote-first role that may require travel to Boston, MA for new hire onboarding and occasional in-person team meetings and company events.\nWhat you’ll do:\nOwn story-level work independently - decomposing stories into tasks, implementing across the full stack (Java/Groovy backend, React/TypeScript frontend, MongoDB, Kafka), and leading release and support for your changes\nDesign and ship features with strong quality discipline - writing appropriate tests, producing accurate estimates, and confirming priorities with your team\nWrite short design notes for non-trivial work, articulating tradeoffs between approaches before committing to implementation\nDebug and resolve production issues in your owned area, using logs, metrics, and traces to identify root causes and ship fixes\nIdentify and ship small platform or process enhancements that improve developer experience, code quality, or operational reliability\nProvide high-signal code reviews that catch issues, suggest improvements, and help teammates grow\nSupport onboarding of new team members and mentor interns or new hires on bounded, well-scoped tasks\nCoordinate across tasks and dependencies within your stories - working with PM, QA, and adjacent engineers to resolve blockers and close issues through resolution\nWhat you’ll need:\n2+ years of professional software engineering experience demonstrating independent delivery and increasing ownership\nBackend development experience using Java or Groovy, including writing and maintaining production services\nExperience building web applications with React, JavaScript, and TypeScript\nHands-on experience with databases (MongoDB or similar NoSQL stores preferred), including basic schema design and query writing\nDemonstrated ability to independently own story-sized work - decomposing into tasks, implementing, testing, and shipping without daily direction\nFamiliarity with event-driven systems or messaging (Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar) at a working level\nProficiency with version control (Git), automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines\nAbility to produce accurate effort estimates and communicate status, risks, and blockers proactively\nStrong code review skills - gives and receives feedback constructively\nBachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or equivalent practical experience\nNice-to-haves\nExperience in healthcare or life sciences industry\nHands-on experience with test frameworks such as Cypress, Playwright, JUnit, or Jest\nFamiliarity with cloud platforms (AWS) and basic infrastructure concepts\nExperience supporting production systems (incident response, monitoring)\nExperience writing design documents or technical specs for feature work\nFamiliarity with feature flag systems and progressive rollout strategies\nPay & Perks:\nFully remote opportunity with about 5% travel\nMedical, dental, vision, life, disability insurance, and Employee Assistance Program \n401K retirement plan with company match; flexible spending and health savings account \nFlex Time Off + company holidays\nUp to 14 weeks of paid parental leave \nPet insurance \nThe salary range for this position is $107,000 to $130,000 annually; as part of a total benefits package which includes health insurance, 401k and bonus.
