The ideal candidate enjoys working with their hands, solving practical problems, and helping engineers accelerate development and improvement activities\nPrimary Duties & Responsibilities\nExecute process development and process improvement experiments under the direction of Process Engineering\n\nPrepare equipment, tooling, fixtures, materials, and documentation required for trials and evaluations\n\nIndependently run manufacturing and engineering trials while ensuring accurate execution of experimental plans\n\nCollect process, quality, and equipment data during experiments and production evaluations\n\nAssist engineers in evaluating process changes, new materials, and equipment improvements\n\nTroubleshoot process and equipment issues and communicate findings to engineering personnel\n\nSupport process transfer activities between manufacturing locations\n\nPerform inspections, measurements, and data collection using standard metrology and test equipment\n\nMaintain engineering equipment, fixtures, and trial areas in a safe and organized condition\n\nAssist with installation, qualification, and validation of new equipment and tooling\n\nDocument trial results, observations, and process conditions accurately and completely\n\nWork closely with operators, supervisors, engineers, and R&D personnel to support manufacturing and development objectives\n\nIdentify opportunities for process improvements and communicate ideas to engineering teams\n\nWhat Success Looks Like\n\nWithin your first year, you will:\nIndependently execute the majority of engineering trials with minimal supervision \nBecome a trusted resource for Process Engineers and manufacturing teams \nConsistently generate accurate, reliable, and actionable experimental data \nAnticipate engineering needs and proactively prepare equipment, materials, and resources for upcoming projects \nDevelop strong working relationships with operators, supervisors, and engineering personnel \nContribute to process improvements, process transfers, and troubleshooting efforts \nBecome proficient with key manufacturing equipment and engineering support activities\n\nEducation & Experience\nHigh school diploma or equivalent\n\n5+ years of experience in a manufacturing, laboratory, technical, maintenance, engineering technician, or related environment\n\nAAS in Engineering or Science fields highly preferred (or equivalent training and experience)\n\nRelevant certifications a strong plus, such as CAM, CAD, ISO, Lean, CMM, others\n\nSkills\nStrong interpersonal, teaming, and problem-solving skills.\nWork effectively with other members of Coherent Corp. \nStrong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills\n\nComfortable working with tools, equipment, fixtures, and manufacturing processes\n\nAbility to follow procedures while adapting to changing priorities\n\nStrong organizational skills and attention to detail\n\nAbility to work independently with limited supervision\n\nGood verbal and written communication skills\n\nBasic computer skills including Microsoft Office and data entry systems\n\nAbility to accurately collect, record, and communicate experimental results\n\nStrong teamwork and collaboration skills\n\nDemonstrated initiative and willingness to learn new equipment and processes\nPreferred Skills\n\nExperience with precision lapping and polishing machinery\nExperience with furnaces, thermal processing equipment, ovens, or programmable equipment \nExperience with inspection and metrology equipment \nExperience supporting process development, process engineering, or manufacturing engineering activities \nBasic understanding of Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement, or problem-solving methodologies\nPreferred Qualifications\nWe appreciate candidates who demonstrate hands-on interests and a passion for building, repairing, fabricating, or improving things, including:\n\nAutomotive projects \nWoodworking \nFabrication and welding \nMachining \nRobotics \nElectronics \n3D printing \nHome improvement projects \nPersonal technical projects\n\nWorking Conditions\nThis is an in person position at our Newark, DE site.\nWork schedule is 5 days, 40 hrs per week, first shift.\nPhysical Requirements\nAbility to occasionally lift, push, or pull up to 40 lbs. \nAbility to stand and walk for extended periods during trial execution and equipment evaluations \nAbility to bend, squat, kneel, and work around manufacturing equipment \nAbility to safely operate within manufacturing environments while following all site safety requirements \n\nSafety Requirements\nAll employees are required to attend scheduled training, follow the site EHS procedures and Corporate EHS standards. This includes the use of proper protective equipment (PPE) as required by the job responsibilities.\nManagers will ensure that all safety and environmental procedures are followed consistently.
