This is a full-time permanent position with benefits. Must work in a positive, cooperative manner with other departmental personnel and the Colby community. The HVAC Technician reports to the Supervisor of Mechanical and Electrical Services.\nThe starting rate for this position is $24.00 per hour.\nEssential Functions\nTo be successful in this position, an individual should be able to perform the essential duties and bring the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities that support the role. This list of duties is intended to be representative rather than exhaustive, and additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.\nFollow all safety rules and procedures.\nSafely operates tools and equipment necessary to perform job duties.\n\nWorks in a positive, cooperative manner with other departmental personnel. The ability to work with members of the diverse Colby community as necessary.\n\nResponds to emergency calls as necessary. Must be able to independently assess situations and form a plan for remedy.\n\nIndependently responds to work orders and requests.\n\nDemonstrates communication and leadership skills.\n\nPerforms work in a prompt, neat, and careful manner that displays common sense, planning, and thoughtfulness.\n\nCoordinates work with other shops.\n\nNotifies and/or obtains advice from the Supervisor of Mechanical and Electrical Supervisor or calls for assistance as may be appropriate in any situation.\n\nInspect, maintain, and service cooling towers, condensers, compressors, chillers, heat pumps, motors, air handlers, fume hoods, fans, control systems, and other heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems.\n\nMaintain customer comfort levels in all campus buildings.\n\nMaintain proper chemical balance on all closed water systems.\n\nMaintain pool water chemical balance, temperatures, and associated equipment\n\nMaintain Energy Management System including, repairs, scheduling, and troubleshooting. Schedule equipment, start/stop equipment, and perform other EMS responsibilities as assigned.\n\nMaintain all PM records and CMMS records/updates.\n\nMaintain refrigerant logs and disposal records.\n\nIdentification and tagging of all new equipment installed.\n\nSupport other trades as required and assist with heating, cooling, plumbing, electrical and other similar problems.\n\nMake recommendations to the supervisor regarding improvements and problems.\n\nMaintain the tools, equipment, and mechanical areas in a clean, neat, orderly condition.\n\nPosition Qualifications \nHigh School Diploma or equivalent required.\n\nValid Maine Driver’s License required. Must have at least one of the following applicable licenses: Universal Refrigerant License, Maine State Limited Electrical License or better, Maine State Oil Burners License.\n\nMechanical knowledge and ability in the operation, maintenance, adjustment and service of the mechanical equipment and systems generally used in institutional buildings.\n\nKnowledge and ability in the maintenance and repair of plumbing systems.\n\nHVAC control systems experience, pneumatic and DDC.\n\nExperience with water to air, and water to water heat pumps required.\n\nAbility to read and understand plans specifications, and other technical documentation and ability to quickly learn new systems.\n\nComputer skills are required.\n\nPreferred Qualifications or Skills:\nAdditional post-secondary education is desired, such as associate degree, related college courses, seminars, certificates, or other documented training.\n\nGeothermal heat pump experience is a plus.\n\nPhysical/Mental Demands\nThe physical demands and work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform essential functions of this position and/or may be encountered while performing essential functions.
