Commonwealth Bank of Australia is the country's largest bank, established by federal legislation in 1911 as a government-owned institution and fully privatised by 1996. It serves roughly one in three Australians across retail deposits, home lending, business banking and institutional markets, and holds the largest share of the domestic mortgage market. The bank has invested unusually heavily in technology for its size, rebuilding its core systems and pushing the CommBank application into a broader financial and lifestyle platform, and it runs the venture arm x15ventures to build and buy adjacent digital businesses.

Senior Product Designer - Fraud & Scams

Sydney Based | Permanent | Full Time | 50% Office Attendance

Do work that matters

At CommBank, we're using data, technology and design to help protect millions of customers from fraud and scams. Join our Fraud & Scams team as a Senior Product Designer and help shape the tools, platforms and experiences that enable faster, smarter and more effective fraud detection and investigation.

You'll lead the design of complex experiences that support investigators, analysts and operational teams to identify patterns, uncover relationships and make critical decisions faster. Working across network analysis capabilities, data-rich platforms and investigative workflows, you'll help simplify complexity and create intuitive experiences that drive better customer and business outcomes.

This role offers a unique opportunity to operate at the intersection of design, data and technology. You'll work on meaningful problems that directly contribute to protecting customers, strengthening fraud prevention capabilities and shaping the future of fraud and scam management at CommBank.

See yourself in our team

Be part of the team that keeps CommBank moving forward. The Chief Operations Office brings together strategy, operations and transformation to deliver better outcomes for our customers and colleagues. Join a collaborative team where you'll solve complex challenges, drive meaningful change and make an impact across the organisation while growing your career.

You are someone who thrives working end-to-end, from discovery and research through to service design, solution design and delivery. You'll join a highly collaborative product, operations and technology environment where stakeholder engagement, curiosity and systems thinking are critical to success.

You'll partner closely with Product Managers, Engineers, Architects, Investigators, Analysts and Business SMEs to understand complex operational challenges and translate them into intuitive, scalable solutions. Whether facilitating workshops, defining data relationships, mapping integrations or designing investigative workflows, you'll bring a strong customer and user-centred lens to your work.

You'll balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution, helping shape products that improve fraud detection, scam prevention and investigative effectiveness across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead discovery work to understand investigator, analyst and operational user needs through research, workshops and stakeholder engagement.
  • Translate insights into concepts, process flows, wireframes and prototypes that validate assumptions and build confidence in recommended solutions.
  • Design end-to-end experiences that balance customer desirability, business outcomes and technical feasibility.
  • Define solution requirements including user journeys, process flows, functional requirements and design specifications.
  • Apply systems thinking and design thinking practices to solve complex problems involving interconnected data, workflows and platforms.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Engineers, Architects, Operations, Risk and Business stakeholders throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Support data mapping, integration design and documentation activities across multiple systems and platforms.
  • Contribute to product strategy and roadmap discussions using customer insights, operational data and a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Facilitate workshops, design critiques and agile ceremonies to drive alignment and delivery outcomes.
  • Measure and validate impact, using qualitative and quantitative insights to continuously improve experiences and outcomes.

What You'll Bring

  • Proven experience designing complex digital products, operational platforms or enterprise systems end-to-end.
  • Experience leading discovery activities, workshops and stakeholder engagement across cross-functional teams.
  • Strong understanding of human-centred design methodologies and their application within agile delivery environments.
  • Experience designing for complex systems, workflows, services or data-rich platforms.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to influence business and technology audiences.
  • Experience translating business and investigative requirements into practical solution designs and documentation.
  • Knowledge of system integrations, APIs, data modelling, data mapping or related technical concepts.
  • Experience working with complex datasets, interconnected information or operational decision-making workflows.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to facilitate discussions and present recommendations to varied audiences.
  • A portfolio that demonstrates end-to-end product design thinking, stakeholder leadership, problem-solving capability and measurable business impact.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in Fraud, Scams, Financial Crime, Risk or other highly regulated environments.
  • Exposure to graph databases, network analytics or entity relationship modelling.
  • Experience with Neo4j and Cypher.
  • Experience working on large-scale technology transformation initiatives.
  • Exposure to Agile delivery practices and multidisciplinary product teams.

Why Join Us

  • You'll work on products that help protect millions of customers from fraud and scams.
  • You'll solve meaningful and highly complex problems at the intersection of design, data and technology.
  • You'll partner with passionate product, operations and technology teams who are focused on delivering real customer impact.
  • You'll have ownership and autonomy to influence product direction and solution design.
  • We'll invest in your growth and career development through coaching, learning opportunities and access to a strong design community.
