You’ll work end-to-end across customer-facing web applications and the Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) services that connect them with our identity platforms.\nThis is a hands-on Staff engineering opportunity where you’ll solve complex problems, influence technical decisions and turn high-level requirements into resilient solutions. Your work may contribute to capabilities including login, multi-factor authentication, passkeys and broader authentication integration.\nSee yourself in our team\nYou’ll join a full-stack engineering team building modern authentication capabilities used across CommBank digital experiences, including the CommBank App, NetBank, CommBiz and Bankwest.\nWorking primarily with the web squad and collaborating across a shared codebase, you will:\nDesign and deliver end-to-end authentication solutions spanning React/Next.js experiences and Node.js BFF services.\nShape scalable BFF and API architecture using REST and GraphQL where appropriate.\nTranslate high-level requirements into thoughtful system designs and production-ready solutions.\nDesign for secure token management, sessions, authentication state and integration with identity platforms.\nBuild resilient cloud-native services using modern distributed-system and engineering patterns.\nChampion clean code, automated testing, observability, CI/CD and production reliability.\nCollaborate across engineering teams and channels to create reusable integration patterns and consistent customer experiences.\nMentor engineers and influence technical decisions while remaining close to hands-on engineering.\nWe’re interested in hearing from people who:\nBring strong full-stack engineering capability and can demonstrate end-to-end technical ownership. You might lean towards back end or front end. What matters is your ability to understand and design the complete solution and collaborate effectively across both.\nDeep experience with Node.js and JavaScript/TypeScript, including designing and building backend or BFF services.\nStrong React experience together with familiarity or hands-on experience with Next.js.\nDemonstrated system-design capability, including turning broad requirements into scalable end-to-end solutions.\nExperience designing REST APIs, with GraphQL/Apollo experience highly regarded rather than essential.\nUnderstanding of cloud-native and distributed architectures, application security, authentication or identity patterns and secure handling of sessions or tokens.\nStrong engineering fundamentals across automated testing, CI/CD, observability, reliability and clean, maintainable code.\nCuriosity about AI-assisted engineering and using modern tools to improve engineering quality and delivery will also help you thrive.\nIf you’re excited by complex engineering problems and want to shape secure digital experiences at significant scale, we’d love to hear from you.\nWorking with us\nAt CommBank, we're committed to creating an accessible, inclusive and respectful workplace.
