the power movement as a Contract Materials Test Operator\nThe materials test operator position entails materials testing, communication between multiple internal stakeholders, detailed data reporting, equipment maintenance and upkeep, production line support, and continuous improvement.\nCurrent and future laboratory equipment includes but is not limited to: mechanical and electrochemical, metallographic specimen polishing and preparation, visible light and electron microscopy, high temperature heat treatments, static and dynamic mechanical testing in a wide range of environments (including cryogenic and high temperature), magnetic property evaluation, and other thermophysical tests.\nWhat you'll do:\nPrepare test specimens and performs laboratory experiments\nContinuous improvement in the materials test and characterization laboratory\nSupport inventory management on consumable/spare parts and report up for purchasing\nExecution of materials test Jira tickets and QBench orders in accordance with the standard operating procedures\nOperating industry standard and customized materials testing and characterization equipment, processes, and test methods\nConducting materials testing independently under the input from a materials test engineer including data management and reporting\nMechanical testing includes destructive testing (Tensile, Compression, Flexural, Shear, Peel, and Fatigue) using Instron Universal Testing Machines, and other custom testing in extreme environments over a range of temperatures\nMaterials characterization includes metallographic sample preparation (cutting, grinding, polishing), microscopy, hardness testing, magnetic and electrical testing\nSupport in installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting laboratory equipment, including equipment calibration and alignment for effective usage\nAbility and desire to work on multiple, different assignments\nFlexibility to adapt to changes in lab operations, priorities, and schedules\nMaintain rigorous documentation with attention to detail, ensuring data integrity and effective troubleshooting throughout the test lifecycle\nComfortable with performing repeated tests while still maintaining test quality\nPerform other related job duties as assigned by management\nWhat we're looking for:\nHigh school diploma/equivalency certificate or higher\nMinimum 2 years experience with with basic materials prep and testing tools\nMinimum 2 years experience with a variety of technical support skills including but not limited to mechanical and electrical assembly, vacuum systems, cryogenic systems, soldering, and wiring\nParticipate in and promote CFS’ safety procedures and policies\nDesire to work in a fast-paced R&D environment with daily changes\nMeticulous attention to detail\nAbility to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, technical staff and others\nAbility to rapidly execute short turnaround materials testing tasks\nStrong problem solving skills, ability to approach new problems with creativity\nStrong written and oral communications skills & techniques.\nEffective root cause analysis and problem-solving skills\nProficient PC skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint\nAbility to work independently and in a team environment\nAbility to comply, interpret and support procedures, work rules, and protocols\nBonus points for:\nExperience with Instron-based mechanical test systems, Bluehill and Wavematrix software is a plus\nTesting to industry or international standards (e.g. ASTM D638, ASTM E8, ISO)\nExperience working with cryogens such as Liquid Nitrogen and Liquid Helium\nExperience with strain-gage application\nExperience using electrical test devices\nExperience with metallographic sample preparationand analysis\nExperience with hazardous chemical use and management\nExperience with vacuum systems\nExperience operating shop equipment including horizontal band saws, drill presses, grinders/sanders, etc\nAbility to follow engineering procedures andinstructions\nUnderstands materials testing and characterizationequipment operations and processes.\n\nMust-have requirements:\nAbility to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs\nPerform activities such as typing, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time\nDedication to safety to mitigate industrial hazards that may include heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, metallographic Etchants and cryogenics\nWillingness to travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call
