You will be the central owner and know your part of the assembly process through-and-through, and you help guide the technicians through any issues that arise along the way, coming up with solutions that continue work and assembly moving forward. You will proactively ensure that they have all the tools required for the work, either procuring them off-the-shelf or quickly designing and building small tools and fixtures for use. This also includes the close collaboration with adjacent teams on the Assembly Team, such as creating and incorporating the new process changes with the Assembly Process team, or providing the Metrology team with any assistance or tools needed for the precision alignment of coils and other key structures. This role is on-site at Devens, MA but is a “field” role in the sense that you will be working day-to-day in the central construction hall in the CFS-2 facility where we are building the SPARC Tokamak. At the core, your role is to keep the assembly process moving smoothly in any and all ways, managing the day-to-day changes in strategy or work orders, problem-solving and making tools, and using your engineering skills and knowledge to solve the many complex challenges that arise during the assembly process. You will guide and manage how the giant parts of this multi-million pound “Swiss-watch” come together!\nThis particular role is scoped to be third shift focused for the duration of the SPARC Tokamak build project.\nHours: 3:00 pm - 1:00 am\nSalary + 10% differential\nWhat you'll do:\nStation owner working on night hours with start times ranging from 3p to 7p for five nights a week\nOwner and expert in the assembly sequence of your work-station, with the responsibility to determine and enact acceptable solutions and changes to the sequence that both allow successful completion of the work-station but also fit with the entire SPARC assembly sequence\nResponsible for new first-encounter work scope definition from the large magnet positioning and installs to the precise plasma facing component alignment and adjustment\nDetermination and execution of solutions for identified assembly issues that arise, such as fit, method, or component handling problems. Work with the Tokamak System design teams to determine how a part or process step could be modified to work while also meeting functional requirements\nProactively procure or build all tools, fixtures, or manipulation equipment required for the upcoming parts of the process in your work-station\nServe as the extreme owner for a process by testing, implementing, and handing off to production technicians for repeated use for any given operation or tool(s)\nProvide design feedback to SPARC sub-system designs with a focus on manufacturing and assembly. Participate in both formal and informal design reviews to ensure what is delivered can be assembled\nAssist in the disposition and resolution of non-conformance issues on parts or the process, then working to incorporate and release red-line changes into an updated assembly sequence\nSupport hands on operations during Tokamak Assembly serving a variety of roles in the process\nWork with teammates in a collaborative fashion to receive feedback early and often to ensure all requirements are met. Many SPARC projects involve high loads, vacuum requirements, and complex manipulation requiring the involvement and review of adjacent sub system experts\nWhat we’re looking for:\nCivil, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering B.S.\n7+ years of Mechanical Engineering\nExperience demonstrating project ownership\n4+ years experience in overseeing an in-progress construction, manufacturing, or assembly/integration process\n4+ years of experience with CAD software\nBonus points for:\n3+ years of experience with Siemens NX\nLifting operations experience\n\nKnowledge of welding\n\nKnowledge of piping and tubing construction and joining\n\nExperience with highly complex or delicate assemblies\n\nExperience with assembly or integration in tightly packaged spaces\n\nExperience with fast-paced and dynamic construction, manufacturing, or assembly/integration builds\n\nDesign of simple yet sizeable alignment and positioning fixtures\n\nHeavy component manipulation and welding of large structures\n\nMust-have Requirements:\nAbility to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs\nPerform activities such as typing, standing, stooping, climbing or sitting for extended periods of time\nRequired onsite 5 days/week when assembly operations with relevant tools are underway, with possible first or second shift assignment\nWork in a facility that contains industrial hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics","description_format":"text","description_chars":5013,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":7,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Nuclear Energy","Nuclear Engineering"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-24T23:35:49Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":80,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.89,"p_room":0.9,"age_days":32,"expected_fill_days":58,"reasons":["conf:3","velocity","win:mid","comp:brand"],"computed_at":"2026-10-26T05:57:25Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":205000,"is_top_pay":true},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/commonwealth-fusion-systems-senior-field-mechanical-engineer-assembly-second-shift","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/commonwealth-fusion-systems-senior-field-mechanical-engineer-assembly-second-shift.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-26T07:18:06Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":9758,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-27T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":8705},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=8705"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fcommonwealth-fusion-systems-senior-field-mechanical-engineer-assembly-second-shift"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fcommonwealth-fusion-systems-senior-field-mechanical-engineer-assembly-second-shift"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fcommonwealth-fusion-systems-senior-field-mechanical-engineer-assembly-second-shift"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/commonwealth-fusion-systems-senior-field-mechanical-engineer-assembly-second-shift\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fcommonwealth-fusion-systems-senior-field-mechanical-engineer-assembly-second-shift"}]}
