Location:  Aiken, SC (100% on-site)

Pay Rate:  $105-$110/hr

Contract:  1-year base with two (2) 1-year option periods

Work Schedule:  Monday-Thursday, 6:45 AM-5:15 PM EST

Clearance:  DOE “Q” (ability to obtain)

About the Role

We are recruiting on behalf of our client at the Savannah River Site (SRS) for an Advisory Engineer, working title Project Engineer. This is a senior individual-contributor engineering role supporting Central Engineering across H Area, F Area, and the Savannah River Plutonium Processing Facility (SRPPF). You will integrate and manage engineering activities for assigned projects, helping establish design criteria, resource forecasts, schedules, and priorities, and delivering results against the cost and schedule of those tasks.

At this level you are expected to initiate your own technical programs, resolve the most complex problems in your field and in adjacent disciplines, and act as a technical communicator across disciplines. You will also mentor less senior professionals and represent the site in technical forums. Engineering services are provided using the client’s processes and procedures, with programmatic guidance supplied by the client.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overall engineering and design direction, leadership, and management for assigned projects and tasks, including responsibility for scheduling and priority setting.
  • Integrate engineering resources for assigned projects by helping establish design criteria, resource forecasts, schedules, and engineering tools.
  • Prepare project plans covering schedules, budgets, and personnel requirements for major technical tasks, then monitor progress, expenditures, and the quality of work performed.
  • Establish baselines for design activities across assigned projects and engineering work requests, and recommend subcontractor authorizations and baseline changes to project managers.
  • Evaluate project cost and schedule variances using EVMS tools and implement corrective actions; review cost accounts for procurement of engineered materials.
  • Establish project scope of work and confirm that firm customer requirements have been developed.
  • Evaluate subcontractor tasks to ensure design output meets project technical, cost, and schedule objectives.
  • Manage the administration, document control, project controls, and quality engineering sections for assigned projects through section supervisors.
  • Provide administrative guidance to leads and managers, and resolve conflicts between project direction and technical direction from functional managers.
  • Develop solutions to the most complex technical problems in your area of expertise and in adjacent technical fields, and influence the technical direction of other parts of the department.
  • Recommend engineering, technology, research, development, and application programs for others in the group and assist in planning them.
  • Participate in department and site-wide programmatic issue resolution and quality improvement efforts.
  • Communicate results verbally and in written form; report regularly to oversight groups and professional societies and contribute to site missions through reports, presentations, and involvement in national technical organizations.
  • Mentor less senior professionals in both technical knowledge and communication skills, and build project teams by requesting, evaluating, and developing engineering expertise.

Required Education & Experience

Typically an advanced degree plus experience: a PhD and about 15 years of experience, an MS and about 17 years, or a BS and about 21 years. A BS degree in Engineering or current registration as a Professional Engineer is required.
