The position sits in the laboratory’s facility design group and supports building and utility construction projects at the Knolls Site in Niskayuna, NY, where the laboratory carries out its work for the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.\nYou will work within a project team and carry projects from scope definition through construction, overseeing architectural engineering firms and coordinating with facility staff and contractors along the way.\nKey Responsibilities\n Develop and define project scope with project sponsors.\n Work with the project team to develop specifications, cost estimates, and drawing reviews for building and utility projects.\n Oversee architectural engineering firms as they develop concept designs, construction documents, and cost estimates.\n Provide engineering support during the construction phase of building and utility projects.\n Coordinate and interact with facility staff and contractors.\nRequired Education & Experience\nB.S. in Structural Engineering. The hiring team will consider candidates across a range of experience levels, from early-career engineers through senior practitioners.\nTop Skills & Requirements\n B.S. in Structural Engineering.\n Experience performing structural engineering tasks, including development of contract documents, calculations, and cost estimates.\n Working knowledge of building codes and standards.\n Experience in construction administration, including submittal review, RFIs, and construction inspections.\nSecurity Clearance\nThis position requires a DOE “L” security clearance. Candidates must be U.S. citizens and able to obtain and maintain a DOE “L” clearance.\nPreferred Qualifications\n EIT certificate and/or P.E. license.\n Engineering consulting experience.\n Working knowledge of New York State building codes and AISC and ASCE standards.\nContract Details\nDuration: 2-year contract.\nEstimated Hours: Approximately 2,080 straight-time hours per year.\nWork Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week.\nWork Arrangement: On-site at the Knolls Site with up to 20% telework.
