You will validate the characterization of waste generated by the many organizations working at the Laboratory, determine whether that material is regulated or non-regulated, and help prepare and peer review shipments to external disposal facilities.\nThe role carries the regulatory documentation and reporting for RCRA, DOT, and asbestos waste as well as non-regulated chemical and universal waste. You will also train waste generators, conduct field surveillances of their work, and support the regulatory and internal inspections that take place several times a year. Some of the work takes place in the industrial areas of the site.\nKey Responsibilities\n Validate waste characterization for material generated by work across the Laboratory, including the determination of regulated versus non-regulated waste.\n Support and deliver training for waste generators at the Laboratory.\n Conduct field surveillances and inspections of waste-generating activities.\n Develop and peer review waste shipments to external disposal facilities.\n Prepare regulatory documentation and reports for regulated (RCRA, DOT, asbestos) and non-regulated (chemical, universal) waste and shipping activities.\n Participate in and support regulatory and internal inspections that occur multiple times throughout the calendar year.\nRequired Education & Experience\nBachelor of Science in a science-related field from an accredited college or university. The hiring team is considering candidates with up to five years of experience, and one to two years in regulatory waste management, shipment, or disposal is preferred.\nTop Skills & Requirements\n Bachelor of Science in a science-related field from an accredited college or university.\n Working knowledge of RCRA hazardous waste regulations.\n Working knowledge of DOT hazardous materials regulations.\n Ability to interpret regulations, with strong attention to detail.\n Prior experience working with government agencies or regulators.\n Strong written and verbal communication skills.\nSecurity Clearance\nThis position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE “L” security clearance.
