Our all-in-one school management platform is redefining how education communities connect, communicate and operate.\nWe're now looking for a Junior / Mid-Level Software Engineer to help us build new web applications and grow the Compass core platform.\nAbout the Role\nThis role isn't tied to one area of the platform. You'll work across a wide range of new, small web applications that we want to scale up and flesh out, as well as building on top of the large Compass core project. Our main stack is C#/.NET and React, with SQL and MongoDB databases, and you'll work with Claude Code as part of how we build.\nWe're looking for engineers with a few years' of professional experience under your belt, with senior engineers alongside you for bigger design and architecture calls.\nWhat You'll Do\nBuilding & Delivery\nTake on well-scoped pieces of work and carry them from ticket to production, working closely with product managers, owners and fellow engineers.\nDesign, develop and maintain secure, well-structured, high-performance software used by thousands of students, parents and teachers around the world.\nScale up and flesh out new web applications, and build new features on top of the Compass core platform.\nQuality & Craft\nWrite clean, well-tested code, including unit tests for your own changes and critical paths.\nGive and receive code review as a core way to grow your craft.\nAnalyse problems to uncover hidden complexity, and design solutions that balance technical feasibility with business value.\nDocument meaningful technical decisions.\nAI-Assisted Development\nUse Claude Code day to day to speed up delivery without compromising quality.\nKnow where AI helps, where it doesn't, and what to do about it.\nCollaboration & Support\nWork with product managers and owners to understand customer needs and make sure solutions deliver the right outcome.\nTake part in sprint planning, technical design sessions and retrospectives with well-prepared ideas.\nWork with the support team to triage and resolve production issues.\nCommunicate ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.\nKeep learning modern frameworks, tools and practices, and apply them to improve the product and how we build it.\nRequirements\nAbout You\nYou will bring:\n2+ years professional experience in software development.\nFamiliarity with, or the aptitude to quickly pick up, our core stack: C#/.NET and React.\nExperience with SQL and/or NoSQL databases (we use SQL and MongoDB).\nSolid computer science fundamentals and a good grasp of clean code and software design principles.\nHands-on experience with AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor or similar).\nA real interest in the whole software lifecycle: testing, shipping and supporting code in production.\nExcellent written and verbal communication.\nA proactive mindset: you take ownership, share ideas and see them through.\nCuriosity about the product and the business, not just the code.\nHighly regarded:\nA disciplined approach to AI: writing the specs, context and guardrails that make agents useful on a real codebase.\nAn eye for quality that catches problems before they ship, such as unnecessary abstractions, duplicated logic and subtle bugs.\nThe instinct to trace a problem to its root before reaching for a solution.\nFamiliarity with monitoring tools and CI/CD pipelines.\nBenefits\nWhy Join Compass\nYou'll join a purpose-driven company at a genuinely exciting stage of growth, with real variety in the work - from new products to the core platform and senior engineers around you to learn from.\nWhat we offer:\nA hybrid working environment, based out of our Melbourne office hub.\nLearning and development opportunities, including a dedicated PD budget.\n24/7 access to our Employee Assistance Program (EAP), including face-to-face, phone and live chat support.\nA parental leave program for both primary and secondary carers.\nRegular team events, social budgets and in-office perks help you stay connected, from team lunches to end-of-week socials.\nEmployee Referral Program\nA supportive, inclusive culture where your voice is valued and heard.\nCompass is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
