This position holds overall responsibility for the strategic planning, implementation, administration, maintenance, security, availability, integrity, and performance of critical enterprise database systems and data assets.\nThe ideal candidate will bring extensive hands-on database administration experience, expert knowledge of database architecture, performance tuning, security protocols, and demonstrated expertise supporting secure, highly available database environments. This position requires the ability to independently manage complex technical tasks, provide subject matter expertise, guide junior database administrators, and translate functional and technical requirements into effective database and storage solutions. The Database Administrator IV will also serve as a site lead and supervise all database administrators while maintaining comprehensive technical documentation and operational procedures.\nScope of Work\nEssential Duties & Responsibilities :\nProvide strategic planning, implementation, administration, and sustainment of enterprise database management systems and hosted databases.\nInstall, configure, maintain, and administer database management systems, including creating and managing databases, snapshots, clones, and backups.\nMonitor database health, availability, capacity, performance, and integrity, proactively identifying and resolving potential issues to minimize outages.\nPerform advanced database performance tuning, optimization, reorganizations, upgrades, patches, and migrations to meet business needs and service level agreements.\nMonitor, prevent, and resolve database capacity issues, performance bottlenecks, system errors, and other complex technical problems.\nImplement and maintain robust database security controls, including encryption, access control, user accounts, permissions, and compliance with applicable security policies.\nEnsure database systems comply with Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG), Security Requirements Guide (SRG), and other applicable security and compliance requirements.\nProvide advanced troubleshooting, technical support, and subject matter expertise to sites, developers, third-party vendors, and other technical teams.\nSupport database service selection, high availability solutions, and testing of environment changes in coordination with site personnel and architecture and engineering teams.\nAssist architecture and engineering teams with defining functional requirements, data relationships, attributes, data flow, storage requirements, and data output and reporting capabilities.\nSupport data management functions, including data dictionary expertise, metadata definition, and data mapping for application development.\nAssist with the evaluation, recommendation, and testing of database software products and related technologies.\nDevelop, implement, and maintain database standards, procedures, maintenance guides, and operational documentation.\nCreate and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), knowledge-base articles, contingency plans, and recovery processes for database management systems.\nImplement and manage monitoring tools, performance metrics, and technical enhancements to improve database reliability, efficiency, scalability, and operational performance.\nOversee and participate in the deployment and sustainment of database management systems to accommodate organizational business requirements.\nAdminister day-to-day database sustainment, integrity, security, availability, and operational maintenance activities.\nPerform system-level database management platform maintenance and upgrades to ensure the appropriate security and operational posture is maintained.\nProvide technical guidance, mentorship, and leadership to junior database administrators and other database support personnel.\nSupervise all database administrators, providing direction, technical oversight, and guidance on database administration and architecture best practices.\nServe as the database administration site lead, coordinating technical activities and ensuring database services meet operational requirements.\nPerform complex tasks with little to no supervision and exercise independent judgment in resolving technical issues.\nCollaborate with application developers, systems administrators, cybersecurity personnel, architecture and engineering teams, and other technical stakeholders to support database-dependent applications and services.\nFollow established incident-management, change-management, configuration-management, security, and maintenance procedures.\nParticipate in on-call support as required to support database availability and operational continuity.\nExperience, Education, and Certification Requirements:\nExperience:\nTen (10) years of progressive experience in database administration or a related IT infrastructure discipline demonstrating advanced proficiency.\nDemonstrated expert-level experience administering and maintaining enterprise database management systems and hosted databases.\nExtensive experience with database architecture, performance tuning, capacity management, backups, recovery, and database security.\nDemonstrated experience installing, configuring, upgrading, patching, migrating, and maintaining database management systems.\nExperience implementing and maintaining database security controls, encryption, access management, and compliance with STIG/SRG guidelines.\nExperience monitoring and optimizing database performance, reliability, availability, and scalability.\nDemonstrated experience with database backup, restoration, recovery, high availability, and continuity planning.\nExperience supporting data management functions, including data dictionaries, metadata, data relationships, data mapping, and storage requirements.\nDemonstrated experience providing advanced technical support and troubleshooting for complex database issues.\nExperience developing and maintaining SOPs, maintenance guides, technical documentation, and knowledge-base articles.\nDemonstrated ability to independently perform complex technical tasks with little to no supervision.\nExperience leading, mentoring, and supervising database administrators or other technical personnel.\nStrong analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills.\nStrong verbal and written communication skills.\nAbility to work independently while effectively collaborating with cross-functional technical teams.\nAbility to satisfy the security and background investigation requirements associated with the position.\nEducation:\nMaster’s degree or applicable equivalency.\nPreferred / Relevant Certifications: One is required for consideration.\nCommercial baseline and technical certifications applicable to this advanced role may include:\nCompTIA CASP+ / SecurityX\n(ISC)² CISSP\nMicrosoft Certified: Azure Data Scientist Associate or equivalent\nOracle Database Administration Certified Professional or equivalent\nAdditional advanced certifications related to database administration, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, Azure, cloud technologies, cybersecurity, or enterprise infrastructure are a plus.\nSecurity Clearance
