You will use AI coding tools every day and care about testing.\nCompuco is split into product teams. As a key member of one of these teams, you'll be involved in the entire development process, from the specification phase through to release. Your main focus will be building new functionality as CiviCRM extensions and Drupal modules (Drupal 7 and Drupal 10/11), around finances, payments, memberships and case management. We use AI coding tools every day and have shared playbooks for how to use them. We expect you to use them to work faster, and to check what they produce before it reaches a reviewer.\nWe’re a very process-driven team and constantly seek to refine the way we work to ensure that we continue to deliver the highest quality service to our clients and to the sector as a whole. We’re extremely proud of the way we work and the open culture we’ve developed.\nKey responsibilities:\nBuild and test CiviCRM extensions and Drupal modules, with unit tests on every change\n\nHelp write technical specifications before building, and at a senior level lead them\n\nReview other people's pull requests and give useful technical feedback\n\nUse AI coding tools within our playbooks, and check their output\n\nInvestigate production issues to the root cause and write up what you found\n\nTake part in planning, estimation and retrospectives, and follow actions through\n\nKeep documentation up to date: README files, extension metadata, process pages\n\nShare knowledge with and support other members of the team\n\nExperience sought:\nAt least 3 years of experience in web application development with PHP. For the senior end of the range, we look for 5+ years, including time as a senior or lead.\n\nExperience extending a large PHP platform through its hooks, APIs and modules or plugins (Drupal, WordPress, SuiteCRM, Magento or similar). CiviCRM experience is a bonus\n\nDaily use of AI coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, Cursor or similar) on real projects, and the judgement to spot when their output is wrong\n\nExperience writing unit tests and testing processes\n\nExcellent database / SQL skills, including performance optimisation and normalisation\n\nBe skilled with Git, including rebasing and squashing commits\n\nExperience with Docker-based local development environments\n\nExperience with Linux and the command line\n\nExperience with CI/CD pipelines, ideally GitHub Actions\n\nDesirable skills:\nWriting technical specifications that others can review and estimate\n\nCiviCRM extension development\n\nBrowser testing with Playwright or similar\n\nPayment processor integrations and webhooks (Stripe, GoCardless or similar)\n\nDrupal module development on 7 and 10/11\n\nFront-end JavaScript, including legacy AngularJS\n\nSecurity and data protection awareness\n\nContributing fixes to open-source projects\n\nWhat we value in this role:\nGood judgement: knowing when the quick answer is the wrong answer, whether it comes from an AI tool or a person\n\nFollowing through: a job is done when the fix is merged and the ticket is closed\n\nClear writing: specifications, PR descriptions and investigation notes that others can act on\n\nTeam player: reviews, mentors and shares by default\n\nType: Permanent\nLocation: Hybrid working (office based in Shoreditch, London) or Fully Remote anywhere in the world\nHow to apply:\nIf you think this is the role for you, please send your CV through to us with a short covering statement explaining what caught your interest and why you think you'll fit.\nSalary range: £25k-£35k\nAbout Compuco:\nOur mission is to empower socially responsible organisations with the digital tools they need to build a better world.
