The candidates must be well organized, detail-oriented and able to render sound technical decisions while handling multiple assignments. Must have excellent interpersonal skills to effectively interact with internal/external customers and agencies and various levels of management. The candidates must have a proven record of accomplishments in providing engineering support for various types of industrial/utility building /structure design, analysis, inspection, repair and construction field supports. Must possess strong oral and written communication skills. Strong leadership skills including experience in direct supervision, and the ability to positively manage and motivate others is required. Additionally, strong computer skills and familiarity with the Incident Command System are required. Computer literacy (including MS Office) is required. Must also be available for emergency work 24/7 as required by system conditions.\nCore Responsibilities\nThe Engineer will be responsible for the complete management of selected projects; engineering and design of structures, systems and components (SSCs) of steam and electric generating stations, construction specifications, bid preparation and evaluation, appropriations, scheduling, construction field supports, etc.\nPrepare and/or direct the preparation of design packages (specifications/drawings) and the review of construction administration documents; serve as a consultant within the Company or industry in his or her area of specialization; perform cost benefit analysis/conduct conceptual studies to determine best designs; prepare or direct the preparation of budgets and appropriation requests for specific projects; perform calculations for specific projects and be required to direct, coordinate and review work of outside consultant, technicians and designers.\nWill also ensure implementation of Company Safety, Health and Environmental programs for employees whose work is directed and ensure that safe work practices are followed, and the environment is fully protected in accordance with Company policy and environmental regulations.\nInvestigate, evaluate, and develop engineering responses to requests and concerns on generating stations SSCs.\nSupervise both in-house and external design efforts.\nThe Engineer will provide direct field support in response to failures and respond to emergencies on a 24/7 basis, when necessary.\nWill be required to travel to all Con Edison sites requiring support.\nProvides technical assistance as required.\nPerform other related tasks and assignments as required.\nRequired Education/Experience\nBachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related and 4 years of applicable civil engineering work experience\nPreferred Education/Experience\nBachelor's Degree Electrical Engineering\nRelevant Work Experience\n Structural engineering experience in analyzing and designing various new SSCs and modifications to existing SSCs, required.\n Strong technical knowledge in the design of all steel, concrete and masonry structures, and familiar with all applicable codes such as AISC, ACI, ASCE, NYC Building Code, etc, required.\n General engineering experience in building envelope restoration for various faade and roof systems, and general facility inspections, required.\n Requires computer proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), required.\n Project management experience that consist of field inspection, cost estimate, technical document development, review construction documents which include plans, specifications and bid packages, preferred.\n Working knowledge of any engineering design analysis programs such as STAAD or SAP 2000 or equal, AutoCad, MathCad, etc. is strongly preferred.
