Job Description

As the Server Support Engineer- Unix Support, you will be a responsible for delivering 2nd and 3rd line support for the Global Unix / Linux Platforms.

This is an operational role, focusing on technical analysis and timely resolution, providing technical skills to resolve all service issues within agreed Service Level Agreements, ensuring that customer satisfaction is maintained. You will be part of a team responsible for providing day-to-day administration, maintenance, and support

The ideal candidate is expected to be able to meet tight project deadlines, excel under pressure, work well with others, be self-motivated, and manage short and long term projects.

You will actively interface with management, end users/ customers, internal software developers, network engineers, systems, storage, project management and database administrators.

Must be able to adapt to rapidly changing environments and coordinate large scale implementations using available resources.

It is a 24x7 support and candidates should be open to work in different shifts, weekends and be available as On Call.

As the Server Support Engineer - Unix Support, you will be responsible for delivering 2nd and 3rd line support for the Global Unix/Linux Platforms.

Requirements

  • 8+ years in Linux Systems Administration role in a large physical and virtual environment required.

  • 8+ years’ experience in Redhat Linux administration (must have).

  • 8+ years’ experience in UNIX administration experience or equivalent (must have).

  • 8+ years’ experience in SAN administration experience or equivalent (NetApps) (preferred).

  • 8+ years’ experience in Redhat Virtualization (Preferred).

  • The ideal candidate is expected to be able to meet tight project deadlines, excel under pressure, work well with others, be self-motivated, and manage short and long term projects.

  • Must be able to adapt to rapidly changing environments and coordinate large scale implementations using available resources.

  • Ability to be self-directed, able to focus on personal assignments while remaining part of a larger team with proven ability to multi-task.

  • It is a 24x7 support and candidates should be open to work in different shifts, weekends and be available as On Call.

  • This position is based out of Brazil.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver 2nd and 3rd line support for the Global Unix/Linux Platforms.

  • Resolve all service issues within agreed Service Level Agreements while maintaining customer satisfaction.

  • Provide day-to-day administration, maintenance, and support.

  • Actively interface with management, end users/customers, internal software developers, network engineers, systems, storage, project management, and database administrators.

  • Interface with internal stakeholders to obtain a full understanding of the project requirements and recommend the appropriate technology to accomplish the requirements.

  • Work on incidents, requests, and changes for Linux platforms.

  • Perform Problem Management, including Root Cause Investigation, fixing problems, providing workarounds, and permanent fixes.

  • Deploy changes to development, staging, production, and DR environments.

  • Install, manage, and administer various flavors of UNIX, including RHEL, Oracle Linux, and Ubuntu.

  • Install, manage, and administer RHEV hypervisors.

  • Install and administer hardware from vendors such as HP and Dell.

  • Provide comprehensive Level-2 and Level-3 support in managing critical servers and services in a Linux environment attached to enterprise-class storage.

  • Identify and develop scripts using various scripting languages (Perl, Shell, etc.) for automating manual tasks.

  • Work in a global team environment and ensure processes and procedures are implemented and followed.

  • Support associated non-production lab and QA environments as necessary.

  • Provision and maintain hardware, networking, and operating systems for all Unix/Linux servers.

  • Manage server clustering and fail-overs.

  • Participate in BCP/DR drills.

  • Manage file systems and logical volumes.

  • Manage user/group rights, client configuration, logon scripts, and group privileges.

  • Perform capacity planning and performance tuning to prevent issues and minimize service disruptions.

  • Monitor server health status and OS health checks.

  • Install new software releases and system upgrades.

  • Monitor system configuration to ensure data integrity.

  • Conduct routine hardware and software audits.

  • Provide recommendations for hardware and system software planning and budgeting.

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive operating system hardware and software configuration database/library of all supporting documentation.

  • Analyze and resolve issues associated with servers, hardware, and software.

  • Troubleshoot networking and operating system issues.

  • Enforce corporate Unix/Linux security policies and resolve security issues in a timely manner.

  • Track application usage and client-specific network audit requirements.

  • Analyze Unix/Linux server hardware requirements and make recommendations to team management.

  • Work in emergency situations related to downtimes, application and system upgrades, critical incidents, and 24x7 availability over phone and in person.

  • Compile and maintain all systems and operational procedure documentation.

  • Compile and maintain daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly processes and procedures.

  • Work on project activities including installation and configuration of new applications, servers, and migration activities.

  • Monitor actual deliverable deadlines against scheduled completion dates.

  • Interact with System Teams to perform back-up and recovery procedures.

  • Complete all assigned, mandatory training within the timeframe provided.

  • Conduct and/or participate in regularly scheduled 1:1 meetings with your direct manager and/or direct reports.
