Our teams build scalable, secure platforms that enable seamless data exchange across the healthcare ecosystem while meeting regulatory and compliance requirements.\nResponsibilities:\nDesign, implement, and maintain FHIR R4 servers and APIs supporting payer-relevant resources and operations (CRUD, search, history, bulk data, subscriptions).\nDefine and manage FHIR profiles, extensions, value sets, and terminology bindings aligned with payer use cases.\nMap and transform payer system data (membership, claims, benefits, authorizations) into FHIR-compliant formats.\nBuild Java 17 or more/ Spring Boot microservices using clean architecture and domain-driven design principles.\nDevelop and integrate RESTful and event-driven APIs using Kafka.\nImplement HAPI FHIR frameworks for persistence, validation, and serialization.\nApply SMART on FHIR, OAuth 2.0, and OpenID Connect for secure authentication and authorization.\nEnsure HIPAA-compliant handling of PHI, including encryption, audit logging, and access controls.\nDeploy and scale applications in Microsoft Azure using Docker and Kubernetes (AKS).\nDesign resilient systems with retries, circuit breakers, idempotency, and DLQs.\nContribute to CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code initiatives.\nEstablish testing strategies (unit, integration, performance) and observability practices.\nMentor engineers, conduct code reviews, and contribute to architecture decisions.\nRequirements:\n5 years of professional Java development experience.\nStrong expertise in Java 11 (preferably Java 17) and Spring Boot.\n3 years of hands-on FHIR experience (R4 required; R5 preferred).\nExperience with core FHIR resources, profiles, extensions, validation, and versioning.\nProven experience with HAPI FHIR (server configuration and customization).\nSolid understanding of payer healthcare data domains (member, coverage, claims, benefits).\nExperience implementing OAuth 2.0 / OIDC and SMART on FHIR.\nHands-on experience with Azure, Kafka (or equivalent), and MongoDB and/or relational databases.\nExperience building and operating cloud-native microservices.\nStrong communication skills and ability to work in regulated environments.\nPreferred Qualifications:\nExperience with Bulk FHIR ($export) and asynchronous workflows.\nFamiliarity with X12 transactions (270/271, 834, 835, 837).\nExperience with HL7 v2 or CDA/CCDA.\nKnowledge of terminology services (SNOMED CT, LOINC, RxNorm).\nExperience with API gateways (Azure APIM, Apigee, Kong).\nFamiliarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep).\nExperience with observability tools (Open Telemetry, Prometheus, Grafana).\nPrior experience with CMS/ONC interoperability initiatives or payer programs.\nSuccess in this role:\nDeliver and operate a production-grade payer FHIR platform covering required resources and operations.\nImprove scalability, latency, and reliability across Kafka-driven pipelines.\nMaintain strong security and compliance posture for PHI.\nElevate engineering standards through mentorship, documentation, and automation.\nTech Stack:\nLanguage/Framework: Java 17, Spring Boot, Spring Security\nFHIR: R4/R5, HAPI FHIR, SMART on FHIR\nCloud: Microsoft Azure (AKS)\nMessaging: Kafka\nDatastore: MongoDB, relational databases\nDevOps: Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD\nSecurity: OAuth 2.0, OIDC, JWT\nObservability: Logging, metrics, distributed tracing\nEducation:\nBachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.\nFlexible Working\nAt Conduent, we value individuality and flexible working arrangements.
