We care about our team and are committed to provide great work experience, professional development and of course compensation & benefits.\nSCOPE OF POSITION\nThe Field Geophysicist is responsible for the safe, efficient, and accurate operation of geophysical and geotechnical site investigation equipment. Given significant responsibility, the Field Geophysicist is tasked with the smooth and accurate execution of various projects, from deployment of equipment to data acquisition and submission. He or she will work closely with equipment operators, gaining hands-on experience with unique heavy machinery and a sophisticated suite of geophysical instruments in a variety of environments. The Field Geophysicist will assume numerous other roles ranging from Assistant Field Operator to Project Coordinator as the ever-changing demands of the workplace dictate. A successful candidate must have well-developed interpersonal, organizational and communication skills as well as strong problem-solving abilities.\n***This role can be based in Burnaby, BC; Edmonton, AB; or Calgary, AB.\nOVERALL GOALS FOR POSITION\nDevelop a strong working knowledge of site investigation practices and procedures. \nSupport the geophysics team with project execution.\nBuild comprehension of geophysical field investigations, in-situ testing, and soil mechanics.\nGain experience and exposure as a contractor in several of Canada’s largest industries.\nExpand skill set through training and certifications to become an asset of a larger team.\nROLES, RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS\nEquipment Operation\nFamiliarize with and operate equipment required to collect 2D Surface Seismic, Electrical Resistivity Tomography, Borehole Seismic, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, Magnetometry, Multi-beam Bathymetry, Sub-bottom Profiling, GNSS, CPTu, sampling systems, and other in-situ testing equipment in a safe and productive manner.\nAssist the operator when necessary and perform general duties as required.\nOrganize logistics for the mobilization and demobilization of equipment in hard-to-access environments. \nPerform routine maintenance on various pieces of equipment to ensure optimal performance.\nData Collection & Reporting\nPerform testing to collect data in a timely, orderly and accurate manner. \nCompile the collected data, sample logs, etc. daily and submit to the Senior Geophysicist/Project Manager and/or client for further processing. \nCollect field notes and photos to guarantee the translation of data from field to office is as highly accurate as possible. \nHealth & Safety\nIdentify with and respect ConeTec’s safety culture, first and foremost.\nEnsure proper preparation and knowledge of all necessary safe operating procedures before beginning any job.\nReport any safety-related incidents, infractions, or near misses to the Project Manager and the HSE Officer, immediately.\nKnow and follow the incident reporting protocol at all times.\nOther General Responsibilities\nCommunicate with the Senior Geophysicist or Project Manager as to any equipment problems or needs, as well as any field observations that might be of use.\nPerform other shop functions as required.\nSKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED\nEducation Requirements\nBachelor’s Degree with focus in Geophysics, Geology or Applied Science \nExperience Requirements\nPrevious field experience is an asset, in addition to the academic experience noted above\nDriver`s license and clean driving record.\nTechnical Skill Requirements\nElectrical and mechanical skills are an asset but not required\nMust be able to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, moving heavy materials up to 50 lbs., climbing, crawling as well as walking on uneven ground, working long hours in all weather conditions.\nSoft Skill Requirements\nMust possess strong work ethic and represent the company in a professional manner. \nMust be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships.\nMust be responsible and work well independently or in a team setting with minimal supervision.\nMust enjoy working outdoors and travelling for extended periods of time.\nMust enjoy performing a wide variety of duties and be able to manage multiple tasks and priorities.\nAs part of our dedicated focus on the health and safety of all employees, and due to the requirement that employees be able to safely complete the tasks associated with this job position, a successful candidate may be required to take a pre-employment fit for duty test, including a drug and alcohol testing, and complete a satisfactory criminal record check.\nConeTec is an equal opportunity employer.
