Commercial works closely with the regional business units to market ConocoPhillips equity production and improve realized commodity values. In addition, the Commercial organization is responsible for generating value from third party marketing and trading.The Trading Analytics Intern supports ConocoPhillips' Strategy, Analytics & Portfolio Optimization organization, gaining hands-on exposure across market analytics, economics and quantitative analytics work streams that underpin our trading, marketing, and risk decisions. These roles span our commodity portfolio of crude oil, NGLs, natural gas, power, and LNG.\nDepending on placement, interns will either support fundamental market analysis (supply/demand balances, price forecasting, and market intelligence) or quantitative modeling (pricing, simulation, and optimization), working alongside analysts, quants, and traders on live commercial projects. Interns will be paired with a supervisor, mentor, and buddy for the duration of the internship and will deliver a final project presentation to Commercial leadership.\nIntern assignments are offered at ConocoPhillips global headquarters located in Houston, Texas.\nTypical length of our internships varies from 10 to 14 weeks based on the project and your availability.\nMarket Analytics Track\nSupport the building and maintenance of supply/demand balances and fundamental models for crude oil, NGLs, natural gas, or LNG\nAnalyze industry reports, production data, inventory levels, and shipping/vessel-tracking data to support market intelligence\nHelp build or enhance fair value models for futures, spreads, and other derivative products\nAssist in preparing market updates and ad hoc research summarizing supply/demand trends and price outlooks\nQuantitative Analytics Track\nSupport development and testing of pricing, simulation, or optimization models across crude, natural gas, power, LNG, or NGLs\nAssist with forward curve construction, calibration routines, and back-testing of existing models\nContribute to the commercial quant library, including documentation, validation, and code review support\nApply statistical or machine learning techniques to improve forecasting accuracy for fundamentals or price relationships\nBoth tracks\nDeliver a defined project with clear milestones and a final presentation to Commercial leadership, supervisors, mentors, and collaborators\nPartner with traders, analysts, and quants to translate data into decision-ready insights\n• Present findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences\nPosition Overview\nBasic/Required:\nMust be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer and/or education institution\nPursuing a Bachelor's degree or higher in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, Data Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or other related quantitative or technical fields\nCurrent level in college: Junior, Senior, or Graduate Student\nExpected graduation date: Fall 2027 through Spring 2029\nAvailable for internship start mid-late May 2027\nA minimum of ten (10) continuous weeks’ availability for internship\nPreferred:\nA minimum cumulative and major GPA of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale\nStrong foundational skills in Excel including exposure to at least one programming or statistical language (e.g., Python and R)\nExposure to analysis, modeling and visualization using common programs and applications (e.g., Python, R, SQL, Excel/VBA)\nCoursework or project experience in statistics, econometrics, financial modeling, optimization, or data science\nInterest in energy or commodity markets (crude oil, natural gas, NGLs, power, or LNG)\nGenuine intellectual curiosity and a desire to deeply understand the logic, mathematics, and mechanics underlying the models and tools being built\nProficiency with Microsoft Office Products\nBuilds positive relationships based on trust and seeks collaboration across organizational boundaries to achieve goals\nTakes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments by holding others accountable and standing up for what's right\nStrong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate and explain technical or analytical to non-technical audiences\nAll interested candidates must complete an online application at the ConocoPhillips Careers website to be considered for an interview.
