Job Summary

Join ConocoPhillips Australia's Engineering Team as a Rotating Equipment Engineer, supporting the reliability and performance of critical LNG assets on Curtis Island.

Position Overview

ConocoPhillips’ Australian headquarters are located in Brisbane. Our focus is supplying Australian customers with natural gas and international customers with liquefied natural gas. We do this through our 47.5 percent interest in the Australia Pacific LNG joint venture, one of the largest producers of natural gas in eastern Australia. ConocoPhillips Australia also operates the Australia Pacific LNG liquefied natural gas facility near Gladstone. We are also an exploration company, with ongoing exploration occurring in the Bowen and Surat Basin in Central Queensland and new exploration in the Otway Basin along the southern coast of Australia to identify natural gas reserves for supply to Australian customers.

About the Role

Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Lead, the Rotating Equipment Engineer is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and improving the reliability, availability and safe, efficient performance of assigned plant rotating equipment.

Equipment within the remit of the Rotating Equipment Team includes a range of gas turbines, compressors, electric motors, pumps, diesel generators, fans, blowers, gear boxes and package auxiliary systems.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Conducting root cause analyses, technical investigations and developing recommendations to reduce or eliminate defects and premature failures.
  • Participate in the defect elimination process for rotating equipment, performing analysis on various data streams (e.g. SAP) to identify and resolve machinery issues.
  • Participate in site shutdown and equipment repair/overhaul activities, assisting with scope and ITP development, quality assurance and management of engineering change.
  • Specify, conduct and/or arrange quality surveillance of onsite and offsite vendors’ work for selected rotating equipment repairs and overhauls.
  • Support rotating equipment maintenance management practices including review and revision of maintenance strategies, plans and procedures.
  • Assist in the development of annual engineering and/or maintenance budgets, both Capital expenditure (CAPEX) and Operating Expenses (OPEX) within assigned accountabilities.
  • Drive assigned actions arising from the condition monitoring program.
  • Participate in risk reviews and hazard analyses from rotating equipment technical perspective.
  • Develop appropriate risk mitigations during abnormal operating scenarios ensuring safe practices as required.
  • Audit Maintenance of Rotating Equipment within assigned accountabilities.

You will bring to the role:

Required:

  • Cultural alignment with ConocoPhillips’ SPIRIT Values
  • Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering or a similar discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with rotating and/or mechanical equipment in Petrochemical or similar business, preferably in an operational support role
  • Experience in the operation and maintenance of a range of rotating equipment
  • Experience in reading and understanding plant and package design drawings, specifications, vibration data, oil analysis data

Understanding / Knowledge of:

  • Australian and international standards relating to plant rotating equipment
  • Understanding of Vendor/Equipment supplied data sheets
  • Understanding of Root Cause Analysis Investigation methodology
  • Knowledge & understanding of vibration analysis tools and data

Critical Skills:

  • Experience with Plant Maintenance Management Systems and processes
  • Experience with Management of Engineering Change in operating plants, preferably in the Oil and Gas industry, including preparation of specifications, data sheets and similar engineering documentation
  • A high level of self-motivation, strong interpersonal skills, ability to work within a multi-discipline integrated team, and unwavering safety awareness and commitment
  • Sound communication skills and ability to communicate at all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Management Systems policies and procedures
  • Demonstrate methodical, diligent application of sound engineering principles

Preferred:

  • Registration as RPEQ or demonstrated progress toward achieving chartered engineer status & RPEQ
  • SAP experience (or similar computer-based maintenance system)
  • Experience with diagnosis of machinery problems
  • Experience with Plant shutdown/turnaround activities
  • Understanding of Operations and Maintenance Business Processes
  • Experience with manipulation of equipment operating data to derive actionable insights
