Consilium Safety is a world leader in fire, flame, and gas safety solutions. You find us in shipping, transportation, offshore and property sectors.

Consilium Safety Group is one of the world's leading manufacturers of products and safety systems for fire and gas detection in the marine, oil & gas, transport, and construction sectors. The company started in 1912 with speed logs, and today we are an international company driven by innovation. With a presence in 55 countries, we offer a dynamic and international working environment where you will work closely with a team striving to achieve the overall vision of the business.

Our culture is positive and fast-paced, so it is important that you thrive in an environment where things change quickly. Consilium wants all employees to feel comfortable and cared for, and encourages everyone to contribute in a positive way.

We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Electrical Marine Project Engineer to join our team at our Fort Lauderdale, Florida office.

This is a technical project delivery role. The successful candidate will bring a strong electrical or electronics foundation and practical field experience installing, troubleshooting, commissioning, and supporting complex systems. You will lead Consilium Marine US projects from order handover through installation, commissioning, customer acceptance, and the end of the warranty period.

The role is office-based when you are not traveling and requires approximately 40-60% domestic and international travel, sometimes for several weeks at a time. On-site assignments may require extended workdays and weekend work based on vessel schedules, commissioning requirements, and customer operating windows.

The role

You will be responsible for the technical and commercial delivery of assigned projects, serving as the link between Sales, Engineering, Operations, Service, customers, shipyards, and installation teams. This role involves substantial hands-on electrical and field work, not just office-based project management. Depending on the project, you may manage a project independently or lead a team, but you will almost always be in the field working directly with equipment, installation, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing project scope, customer requirements, technical specifications, drawings, and system documentation at handover from Sales.

  • Developing project execution plans, schedules, milestones, resource requirements, and risk controls.

  • Creating, updating, and maintaining technical drawings, layouts, wiring documentation, and as-built records.

  • Coordinating the procurement, preparation, packing, and shipment of equipment, materials, tools, and project documentation.

  • Leading and coordinating installation activities at customer sites, vessels, shipyards, and other field locations.

  • Providing hands-on technical support during installation, testing, troubleshooting, programming, commissioning, and customer acceptance.

  • Diagnosing electrical and electronic faults using schematics, wiring diagrams, specialized test instruments, and other approved diagnostic tools.

  • Coordinating technicians, subcontractors, internal departments, and customer representatives to keep projects on schedule and within budget.

  • Monitoring project progress and proactively communicating status, changes, risks, delays, and required actions to customers and internal stakeholders.

  • Managing punch-list items, deviations, change documentation, handover packages, and warranty follow-up.

  • Training coworkers and external customers on system operation, maintenance, and relevant technical procedures.

  • Performing additional duties as required to support safe and successful project delivery.

Who are we looking for?

Required qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, electrical engineering technology, electronics, marine engineering, automation, or a related technical discipline; or equivalent hands-on technical experience in electrical and electronic systems.

  • Demonstrated field engineering experience is required, including experience with electrical installation, service engineering, commissioning, troubleshooting, or technical project execution.

  • Hands-on knowledge of electrical and electronic components, control systems, instrumentation, wiring, and equipment installation.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, system drawings, technical specifications, and customer requirements.

  • Ability to use specialized test and diagnostic instruments to identify faults, verify system performance, and support commissioning activities.

  • Experience coordinating technical work in the field, including installation teams, contractors, tools, materials, deliveries, and site resources.

  • Ability to manage multiple project priorities, make accurate decisions under pressure, and resolve technical or schedule issues with the customer in mind.

  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively-approximately 50-75% domestically and internationally-and work on extended site assignments when required.

  • Valid driver's license and valid passport.

  • Proactive commitment to safety, including accident prevention and maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly work environment.

Preferred qualifications and experience:

  • Experience using AutoCAD, especially 2D electrical, equipment, layout, or system drawings.

  • Ability and willingness to learn AutoCAD quickly; candidates with strong technical drawing and electrical documentation skills will be considered even if their AutoCAD experience is limited.

  • NICET certification, Level II-IV, preferably in Fire Alarm Systems or a related discipline.

  • Previous experience in the marine industry, including shipboard, shipyard, offshore, vessel retrofit, or marine systems work.

  • Current or prior TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) access is preferred.

  • Knowledge of SOLAS and other applicable marine, classification, safety, or regulatory requirements.

  • Experience with fire alarm, gas detection, monitoring, VDR, speed log, instrumentation, automation, or related safety systems.

  • Experience working in a fast-paced technical environment with tight installation and commissioning windows.

Benefits

We offer a competitive benefits package including:

  • Overtime pay as per local and state laws, including travel time

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.

  • 3% Simple IRA retirement plan with company match.

  • 15 days paid vacation starting the first year. Additional 5 days after 5 years.

  • 13 Paid holidays.

  • 10 Paid Personal Time Off (PTO).

  • Opportunities for professional development and career growth.
