The ideal candidate is a seasoned infrastructure engineer with deep DNS expertise, strong Linux and networking fundamentals, and the ability to own and modernize complex internal services end-to-end. This is a highly visible role in a high-growth technology company, which will require hands-on technical ownership of production DNS systems, collaboration across engineering teams, and the ability to drive the future direction of internal platform services including API development in PHP , Go, or Rust. This is your opportunity to join our fast growing team and leave your mark on Vultr and the future of Cloud Infrastructure.\nKey Responsibilities\nOwn and operate Vultr's DNS infrastructure at scale, including recursive DNS (Knot\n\nResolver), reverse DNS, authoritative DNS, and integrations with PowerDNS instances.\n\nMaintain and evolve the PHP-based DNS API, contributing to its long-term direction\n\nincluding potential modernization in Go or Rust.\n\nDiagnose and resolve complex DNS and network incidents, serving as a subject matter\n\nexpert across the organization.\n\nDrive automation and infrastructure-as-code practices across platform services,\n\nreducing toil and improving reliability.\n\nCollaborate with network and infrastructure teams on adjacent systems including BGP\n\nroute reflectors and broader platform tooling.\n\nContribute to observability and operational excellence by leveraging the team's\n\nmonitoring stack (Grafana, Loki, Mimir) to improve visibility into DNS and platform\n\nservice health.\n\nQualifications\n5+ years of experience in platform, infrastructure, or systems engineering in a production environment.\n\nDeep hands-on experience with DNS at scale - including recursive and authoritative\n\nDNS, DNSSEC, zone management, and troubleshooting complex resolution failures.\n\nStrong Linux systems engineering fundamentals including networking, service\n\nmanagement, and operational ownership of production services.\n\nExperience building or maintaining APIs or automation layers, with proficiency in PHP\n\nand/or Go or Rust.\n\nDemonstrated experience with infrastructure-as-code and configuration management\n\ntooling (Terraform, Ansible, or similar).\n\nCompensation\n$125,000 - $135,000\nFinal compensation will vary depending on years of experience, background/skill set, location, and applicable laws.\nInclusion & Privacy\nWe are an equal opportunity employer and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
