Continuous operation allows for relationships and conversations to develop over time, meaningfully fostering trust, collaboration, and shared insight. It also makes Constellation a natural field-building hub by rapidly inspiring, orienting, and connecting people who are newer to the field.\nBased in Berkeley, CA, our shared workspace hosts over 300 people per week across dozens of AI safety organizations in nonprofits, academia, industry, and government. Hundreds of other researchers spend time at Constellation for shorter visits each year. We believe this is the strongest and highest-output network of AI safety researchers in the world; dozens of participants in past Constellation programs have gone on to safety-focused roles at companies such as METR, Redwood Research, Anthropic, Google DeepMind, OpenAI, and the US and UK Safety Institutes.\nAbout the role\nConstellation works with the individuals and organizations trying to make sure AI goes well for humanity. That only happens if we're running well internally, and a well-run Constellation means more capacity, capability, and coordination across the AI safety ecosystem.\nWe're looking for a People Operations Coordinator to join our People team. The people who thrive here are highly organized, take real ownership of their work, and follow through reliably. You'll be executing and maintaining the core systems and processes that keep the People function running - and building them out where they don't yet exist.\nKey responsibilities\nCore People Operations\nExecute end-to-end onboarding and offboarding logistics, ensuring new hires have a smooth start and departing employees are supported through a clean transition.\nMaintain our HRIS, ensuring employee data is accurate, well-organized, and audit-ready.\nAdminister employee benefits programs, including enrollment, employee questions, and vendor coordination.\nHelp maintain compliance with applicable employment laws and regulations, flagging issues as they arise.\nOwn People Ops documentation and internal resources (e.g., employee handbook, FAQs, process guides), and draft new ones as needed.\nSpot what's breaking or at risk and escalate clearly with context.\nRecruiting & Talent Operations Support\nCoordinate scheduling, candidate communications, and onsite/interview logistics.\nMaintain ATS hygiene and recruiting data.\nSupport candidate experience touchpoints, including greeting onsite candidates and helping them navigate the Constellation ecosystem.\nImmigration & Legal Administration\nTrack visa and immigration case timelines and deadlines, keeping employees informed throughout.\nCoordinate with outside immigration counsel on documentation and filings, following established processes.\nSupport contract and compliance tracking, including offer letters, employment agreements, and policy acknowledgments.\nSkills & experience\nExperience in People Operations, HR, or a related administrative or coordination role, with a track record of managing detailed processes accurately and on time.\nHighly organized with meticulous attention to detail; you notice what others miss and follow through reliably.\nThoughtful and discreet; you handle sensitive information with care.\nStrong written and verbal communication skills, with warmth and professionalism in every employee and candidate interaction.\nComfortable building processes from scratch, not just following existing ones.\nSome familiarity with HRIS systems, ATS platforms, or similar tools, or you pick up new systems quickly.\nNice-to-Have\nExposure to immigration coordination or compliance processes.\nExperience with multi-state employment.\nExperience administering an HRIS, e.g. Rippling.\nYou might be a good fit if you:\nCare about AI safety and want your work to have a real multiplier effect on the ecosystem.\nTake pride in execution and follow-through, especially on the details others overlook.\nHold yourself to a high standard, especially when no one is watching.\nAre eager to grow and take on more responsibility over time.\nCompensation & Benefits\nThe base pay range for this role is $80,000 - $100,000 per year.\nOur benefits are hard to beat!
