Responsible for managing efforts to strengthen campaign execution, account planning, opportunity development, meeting preparation, follow-up, and pipeline discipline, so BD efforts are more focused and consistently executed. Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:\nPosition responsibilities:\nOperational Excellence & Discipline: Strengthen the firm’s business development \"ground game\" by implementing structured processes for meeting preparation, opportunity development, and consistent pipeline management.\nEngagement Strategy & Briefing: Oversee the development of high-impact briefing materials and meeting prep strategies, ensuring partners and BD leaders are fully equipped to maximize every client interaction.\nIntegrated Campaign Activation: Partner with Marketing to manage lead flow and action items, ensuring that campaign engagement and market outreach are seamlessly converted into qualified opportunities.\nCross-Functional Coordination: Manage the team that serves as the central point of alignment between Marketing, BD leaders, and Partners, ensuring clear handoffs and internal coordination across all support functions.\nExecution & Action Planning: Set best practices for translating internal discussions and client meetings into clear, actionable plans, ensuring opportunities move through the pipeline via persistent follow-up and internal accountability.\nPipeline Integrity & Reporting: Maintain a rigorous view of firm-wide priorities and progress by overseeing the tracking of activity, opportunity status, and account actions for senior leadership reviews.\nProcess Optimization: Continuously refine the firm's approach to BD support, creating scalable systems that increase efficiency and ensure the growth organization operates with maximum impact and minimal friction.\nPeople Leader:\nServe as direct supervisor and mentor to direct reports\nProvide day-to-day supervision of direct reports, ensure compliance with assigned work hours and monitor for compliance with all firm and department policies. Manage staffing coverage, review and process time logs/time off requests\nSupport business professional development and continued educational opportunities\nIn collaboration with immediate supervisor and central HR, participate in hiring, performance appraisals, counseling, termination and other employee lifecycle events\nAll other duties as assigned or required\nSkills and experience :\nRequired:\nAfter orientation at Cooley LLP, exhibit proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage and other firm applications\nAbility to work extended and/or weekend hours, as required\nAbility to travel, as required\n5+ years applicable experience in the field (e.g., marketing or business development)\nDemonstrated business development skills (e.g. pipeline management, campaign execution)\nStrong working knowledge of enterprise CRM ecosystems (e.g., Salesforce)\nPreferred:\nBachelor’s degree\nSupervisory experience\nPrior legal industry or professional services experience\nCompetencies :\nEntrepreneurial by nature\nExcellent attention to detail\nApproaches tasks through a lens of quality and consistency\nApproaches tasks through a digital first lens\nExceptional interpersonal and communication skills with ability to facilitate and solve problems\nAbility to organize, prioritize and coordinate multiple activities often under tight timelines\n\nTakes a consultative approach to set goals, drive projects, and achieve outcomes\n\nStrong judgment\nTeam-player with collaborative spirit\nUnwavering ability to handle and maintain confidentiality regarding firm information, projects, client data\nHigh level of professionalism at all times\nDemonstrated ability to lead through influence and develop talent\nProactive, analytical mindset\nEffective presentation skills\nCooley offers a competitive compensation and excellent benefits package and is committed to fair and equitable employment practices. EOE.\nThe expected annual pay range for this position with a full-time schedule is $185,000 - $240,000.
