This role focuses on the design, development, and validation of software for embedded Linux environments, with a strong emphasis on code reliability, scalability, and reusability. The Embedded Software Engineer will contribute to the development of programmable electronic controllers used in a variety of industrial applications and will collaborate closely with international engineering teams to deliver high-quality embedded solutions.\nThis job is based in Belluno, Italy, and regular on-site presence is required.\nSalary: €40,000 - €45,000 gross annual salary, depending on experience and qualifications.\nKey Responsibilities of the Role\nDevelop, document, test, and maintain software applications for embedded Linux environments.\nParticipate actively in code reviews and contribute to software design and architecture discussions.\nImprove and support continuous integration (CI) processes to increase build efficiency and deployment automation.\nCollaborate with global engineering teams to troubleshoot issues, perform debugging activities, and improve software performance.\nContribute to the architecture and design of new embedded products and software platforms.\nImplement reliable, reusable, and maintainable software solutions following software development best practices.\nSupport the integration of software with internally developed hardware platforms and programmable controllers.\nTranslate business and technical requirements into effective software solutions.\nPrepare technical documentation, design specifications, and validation records.\nSupport continuous improvement initiatives related to software development processes, tools, and product innovation.\nRequired Skills and Qualifications\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.\nStrong knowledge of the C programming language and embedded software development principles.\nExperience developing software in Linux embedded environments.\nKnowledge of multithreaded programming and inter-process communication (IPC).\nUnderstanding of Linux kernel architecture and device drivers.\nExperience working with Git version control systems.\nAbility to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions and software designs.\nFamiliarity with cybersecurity concepts and secure software development practices.\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills.\nGood communication and teamwork skills.\nAdvanced English language skills (written and verbal).\nPreferred Skills and Qualifications\nExperience with embedded Linux distributions such as Yocto or Buildroot.\nKnowledge of Rust programming language.\nExperience with the Zephyr Project or other real-time operating systems.\nKnowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, BACnet, MQTT, or similar.\nExperience contributing to software architecture decisions for embedded products.\nAbility to work effectively in an international and distributed development environment.\nProactive attitude, adaptability, and willingness to continuously develop technical competencies.\nAbout the location:\nCopeland Controls is a global leader in high-quality products and services, distributed and supported across more than 70 countries by a network of skilled and knowledgeable professionals.\nOur Belluno (Italy) manufacturing site employs over 200 dedicated team members who provide exceptional training, hospitality, and customer service, ensuring the correct selection of controllers and efficient after-sales support.\nOur brand-new Innovation Center spans 1,000 sq.m and features a cutting-edge research and development laboratory.
