The Iñupiaq way of life is woven into our curriculum, programs, activities, and daily interactions within Ilisagvik College and our community partners. \nSUMMARY OF POSITION:\nTeaches one or more courses within the Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Heavy Equipment Operations (HEO) division of the Workforce Development Department (no more than 7.5 credits per semester).\nClasses to be taught will prepare students for the following licenses and certifications:\nRestricted Off-Highway CDL \nRestricted Class B CDL \nUnrestricted Class A or B CDL\nForklift Operator\nGiven the on-site nature of these and related courses, Ilisagvik College welcomes applicants from throughout Alaska.\nESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:\nPrepares and maintains updated instructional materials, course outlines, and curriculum.\nTeach course material in an academic setting such as permit preparation or CDL endorsement trainings.\nTeach course material in a laboratory (hands-on) setting such as behind-the-wheel drivers ed, behind-the-wheel CDL, and/or heavy equipment operations.\nDevelops and submits current course syllabus, using the college template.\nMaintains office hours (in-person, telephonically, or online).\nEvaluates student performance and submits appropriate attendance, grades, and reports.\nCompletes reports and presentations, and attends meetings and special events, as required.\nParticipates in professional development as necessary to be proficient in the college’s current technologies and learning platform.\nCoordinates with Department Faculty and administration on topics such as scheduling, road exams, DOT physicals, and DOT drug screening.\nTravel to North Slope villages for VEWFD courses and activities as available.\nComplies with College policies, procedures and administrative directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances.\nPerforms other related duties as assigned.\nKNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:\nGood oral and written communication skills.\nDemonstrated experience in curriculum development.\nDemonstrated experience with distance delivery.\nDemonstrated ability to interact effectively in a multicultural environment.\nAbility to pass a pre-employment background check.\nDemonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas: post-secondary educational systems, North Slope Borough [NSB] institutions and organizations; Iñupiat culture, language, values, and traditions.\nAbility to interpret and represent North Slope community values, customs, and beliefs for the College.\nAbility to interpret and represent College actions and western institutions to the North Slope community.\nAbility to support Iḷisaġvik College’s mission.\nEDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/TRAINING [Required]:\nHigh school diploma or equivalent.\nCertifications and / or experience related to job description.\nMust have a clean driving record, an Alaska Commercial Driver License, and have held that license for at least 5-years.\nA minimum of one year teaching experience in the appropriate field, or equivalency experience.\nEDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/TRAINING [Preferred]:\nAssociates degree or equivalent.\nHave appropriate certificates, journeyman-level, or experience, in commercial driving and/or heavy equipment operations.\nHave a minimum of 400 hours of training experience in a post-secondary environment.\nPossess a current State of Alaska Driving Instructor Permit.\nValid Alaska A/CDL license with all operator endorsements.\nPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
