Please visit https://catalog.ilisagvik.edu/ for a full course description:\nIlisagvik College welcomes applications from the local Utqiaġvik community for these courses.\nHIM 210: ICD-10 CM Coding (3 credits)\nThis course reviews the role of the coding professional, the history of classification systems with emphasis on the basic rules and guidelines of the International Classification of Disease, Ninth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM). This course will review the purpose and use the structure and conventions of ICD-10-CM. Detailed study will cover coding procedures in assigning ICD-10-CM codes for diagnosis and procedures with emphasis on coding in the inpatient care setting, coding compliance programs, performance measurement, staff recruiting and retention, and coding for reimbursement.\nHIM 211: CPD-4 Coding (3 credits)\nThis course reviews the basic principles, characteristics, and conventions of coding with the current procedural terminology (CPT), nomenclature and introduces the concept of compliance programs including auditing and monitoring, compliance considerations unique to certain healthcare settings, and CMS initiatives to reduce Medicare payment errors and high-risk areas for fraud/abuse enforcement.\nESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:\nPrepares and maintains updated instructional materials, course outlines, and curriculum.\nDevelops and submits current syllabus, using the college template.\nPrepares administrative documents, such as student withdrawals and attendance.\nEvaluates student performance and submits grades to the registrar.\nMaintain office hours (in-person, telephonically, or online).\nParticipates in professional development as necessary to be proficient in the college’s current technologies and learning platform.\nComplies with College policies, procedures and administrative directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances.\nPerforms other related duties as required.\nKNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:\nDemonstrated professional and/or teaching experience in the subject area.\nExcellent oral and written communication skills.\nProficient in MS Office Word, Excel or PowerPoint.\n Demonstrated teaching experience in a post-secondary environment.\nDemonstrated experience in curriculum development.\nDemonstrated experience with distance delivery.\nDemonstrated ability to interact effectively in a multicultural environment.\nAbility to pass a pre-employment background check.\nDemonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas: post-secondary educational systems, North Slope Borough [NSB] institutions and organizations; Iñupiat culture, language, values, and traditions.\nAbility to interpret and represent North Slope community values, customs, and beliefs for the College.\nAbility to interpret and represent College actions and western institutions to the North Slope community.\nAbility to support Iḷisaġvik College’s mission.\nEDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/TRAINING [Required]:\nBachelor’s or Master’s degree in the area of instruction or related field.\nEDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/TRAINING [Preferred]:\nDoctorate degree or equivalent in the area of instruction.\nPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
