The Iñupiaq way of life is woven into our curriculum, programs, activities, and daily interactions within IlisagvikCollege and our community partners.\n\nSUMMARY OF POSITION: \nThe Workforce Development Instructor develops and teaches courses and training workshops in the North Slope villages, in Utqiaġvik, and via distance delivery throughout the North Slope Borough (NSB) using a combination of direct instruction, cooperative learning and computer-based interactive instruction.\nESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: \nDevelops and teaches courses on instruction in some or most of the following areas: Professional Skills (i.e., office skills, employment readiness, and/or financial literacy etc.), and basic software use for professionals (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite, QuickBooks, basic Adobe).\nIs responsible for all aspects of the training schedule, including curriculum, location, time, trainer selection (if necessary) and marketing.\nPromotes education and training for organizations to meet the human resource needs of North Slope employers. \nPrepares, maintains, compiles and updates instructional and training materials, general course information and outlines, curricula and other course records.\nTracks course expenditures and helps Workforce Development team coordinate payments to contractors, consultants and adjunct instructors.\nMaintains appropriate student and applicable grant performance records.\nDevelops and maintains strong relationships with NSB village organizations and employers; plans and implements training projects designed to meet identified training needs.\nConducts an ongoing training needs assessment through a program of employer surveys, frequent contacts and relationship-building throughout the NSB.\nCollects, evaluates, and reviews data on training and business development needs with business clients in order to provide relevant training and workshops which will stimulate economic activity throughout the NSB.\nIdentifies and recruits other workforce instructors and students. \nWorks closely with the Workforce Development Director, Dean and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, the Marketing department, Student Services, and clients.\nExplores and initiates novel and effective approaches to teaching and learning in a multicultural environment. \nMakes presentations, and attends meetings and special events, as required.\nEngages with colleagues in annual program assessment.\nParticipates in professional development as appropriate.\nTravels frequently, including travel throughout the NSB to conduct needs assessment and/or to conduct training workshops. \nActively participates in College and community service, including serving on committees and participating in College activities.\nComplies with College policies, procedures and administrative directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances. \nPerforms other related duties as assigned.\nKNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:\nDemonstrated professional teaching and/or training experience in a corporate or post-secondary environment.\nDemonstrated experience in working with organizations to determine their training, education and experience needs. \nDemonstrated professional oral, written, interpersonal, and presentation communication skills. \nDemonstrated PC proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.\nDemonstrated ability to interact effectively in a multi-cultural environment.\nDemonstrated knowledge of one or more of the following: communications, sales, advertising, marketing, management, professionalism and key skills for workplaces. \nDemonstrated professional work experience in workshop and/or course development.\nDemonstrated experience working independently in a rural, isolated environment.\nDemonstrated successful experience as a trainer. \nDemonstrated professional work experience in an Alaska Native environment\nAbility to travel periodically.\nAbility to pass a pre-employment background check.\nDemonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas: post-secondary educational systems, North Slope Borough [NSB] institutions and organizations; Iñupiat culture, language, values, and traditions.\nAbility to interpret and represent North Slope community values, customs, and beliefs for the College.\nAbility to interpret and represent College actions and western institutions to the North Slope community.\nAbility to support Iḷisaġvik College’s mission.\nEDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/EXPERIENCE [Required]:\nBachelor’s degree or equivalent in Business, Education, Management or other relevant field or appropriate industry credentials (candidates with complementary credentials/experience are encouraged to apply).\nValid driver’s license.\nEDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/TRAINING [Preferred]:\nMaster’s degree or equivalent in Business, Education or related field.\nPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
