Role Overview

As the Corporate Staff Accountant, you'll support the accuracy, integrity, and efficiency of Cortland's accounting and financial reporting processes. You'll maintain general ledger accounts, perform financial analyses and reconciliations, record complex transactions, and contribute to timely month-end, year-end, and audit activities.

Financial Reporting & General Accounting

· Support the monthly close process by preparing financial reports, analyses, and supporting schedules to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.

· Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjustments for complex accounting transactions in accordance with GAAP and company policies.

· Perform account analyses and maintain assigned general ledger accounts, ensuring balances are accurate, properly supported, and reconciled.

· Prepare balance sheet reconciliations, investigate reconciling items, and resolve discrepancies proactively.

Accounts Receivable & Billing

· Manage customer billing and accounts receivable activities to support accurate invoicing, timely collections, and the integrity of outstanding receivable balances.

· Monitor aging reports, identify collection risks, and partner with stakeholders to resolve outstanding balances.

Fixed Assets & Close Activities

· Administer fixed asset accounting, including asset capitalization, depreciation, disposals, and related reconciliations.

· Execute month-end and year-end close responsibilities, ensuring all required entries, analyses, and reconciliations are completed accurately and on schedule.

Business Partnership & Audit Support

· Serve as a trusted resource for accounting-related questions, ad hoc reporting, and cross-functional initiatives that support business objectives.

· Partner with Accounts Payable to research and resolve payment issues, including payment inquiries, stop payments, stale-dated checks, and vendor account discrepancies.

· Support internal and external audit activities by preparing schedules, gathering documentation, responding to requests, and assisting with audit deliverables.

Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.

· 2+ years of experience in corporate, real estate, construction, or a related accounting environment.

· Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting principles.

· Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively partner across functions.

· Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing business needs.

· Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.

· Ability to work independently and exercise sound professional judgment.
