We focus on reliability, security and continuous improvement.\nWhat you’ll do\nWe’re looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer with a strong focus on AWS data platforms - particularly RDS and Aurora PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Valkey caches and OpenSearch. You’ll own the reliability, performance and security of these platforms and the infrastructure around them, and you’ll be the kind of engineer who is curious about how things work, passionate about improving processes and driven to replace repetitive manual work with reliable automation.\nTo make this happen you will\nDatabase & data platform management\nOwn the reliability, performance and capacity of RDS and Aurora PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Valkey and OpenSearch, balancing availability and cost. \nLead upgrades and migrations, maintain tested backup and recovery procedures, and work with developers to improve queries and data access patterns. \nInfrastructure & reliability\nBuild and maintain secure, scalable and cost-aware AWS infrastructure across multiple environments and regions using Infrastructure as Code. \nIdentify reliability risks and standardise infrastructure patterns to reduce failures and simplify operations. \nCI/CD & automation\nUnderstand existing processes, identify bottlenecks and automate repetitive work to deliver measurable improvements. \nImprove CI/CD pipelines and build reusable, self-service tooling for safe deployments and routine operational tasks. \nMonitoring & incident response\nMaintain actionable monitoring and alerts, lead complex incident investigations and implement fixes that prevent recurrence. \nMaintain practical operational runbooks and participate in the weekly out-of-hours on-call rotation. \nSecurity & best practices\nApply secure defaults across infrastructure and data platforms, including least-privilege access, encryption and secrets management. \nIdentify and address security gaps, keeping configurations and auditing aligned with AWS best practices. \nCollaboration & technical leadership\nPartner with development and QE teams on technical decisions, clearly communicating risks and trade-offs. \nMentor engineers, review infrastructure and automation changes, and share knowledge to strenghten team capability.\nWhat you’ll bring\nTechnical skills\nStrong hands-on experience operating production AWS infrastructure, including networking, IAM, security and observability. \nDeep knowledge of PostgreSQL administration, preferably with RDS and Aurora, including query tuning, indexing, locking, connection management and recovery. \nProduction experience with DynamoDB, Valkey or Redis-compatible caches, and OpenSearch or Elasticsearch, including performance tuning, capacity management and failover. \nStrong proficiency in a scripting or programming language such as Python, Bash, C# or JavaScript. \nExperience with Infrastructure as Code (CloudFormation or Terraform), CI/CD pipelines, Git and code review practices. \nExperience\nTypically 5+ years in DevOps, Cloud, Platform or Site Reliability Engineering, or a related role. \nDemonstrated ownership of production databases and cloud infrastructure. \nA track record of understanding existing processes and delivering practical improvements through automation. \nExperience leading complex technical investigations and implementing lasting fixes. \nExperience guiding other engineers and working across development and operational teams. \nRelevant experience from DBA, Software Engineering, Support Engineering or Quality Engineering roles is also valued. \nRelevant AWS certifications are desirable.\nYou are the type of person who\nIs curious about how things work - and why they work that way \nGets frustrated by repetitive manual work and fixes it with reliable automation \nUnderstands a process and its pain points before redesigning it \nTakes ownership of complex problems and follows through to a lasting fix \nExplains technical risks and trade-offs clearly to engineers and non-engineers alike\nCORTO is an inclusive, people-first company committed to breaking down institutional barriers that keep people from reaching their potential.
