let’s create your future together!\nAbout the role\nAs a Backend Engineer, you will design, build and evolve large-scale, mission-critical backend platforms serving a large customer base and supporting complex business processes.\nYou will work in a modern engineering environment based on microservices, distributed systems, event-driven architecture, cloud-native technologies and continuous delivery.\nThe solutions you develop may support Telekom locally or be shared and evolved across the Deutsche Telekom Group and its National Companies.\nThis role is suited to an engineer who combines strong technical depth with ownership, sound architectural judgment, delivery responsibility and a collaborative mindset.\nKey responsibilities\nOwn the complete lifecycle of backend services, from requirements analysis and technical design through implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and production support.\nDesign, develop and evolve scalable and maintainable Java/Spring Boot services.\nContribute to system architecture, technical strategy, and architectural decision-making in distributed and microservices-based environments.\nDesign resilient solutions for high-throughput, highly available and integration-heavy platforms.\nDefine, implement and maintain RESTful APIs, integration contracts and service-to-service communication.\nWork with asynchronous communication, messaging and event-driven architectures.\nDesign solutions using appropriate relational and NoSQL data stores.\nIdentify and resolve performance, scalability, reliability and maintainability challenges.\nBuild reusable components, libraries, patterns and engineering practices that support the long-term evolution of backend platforms.\nImplement automated unit, integration and end-to-end testing to ensure software quality and delivery confidence.\nWork with containerized and cloud-native environments, including Docker, Kubernetes, Helm and CI/CD pipelines.\nContribute to observability through appropriate logging, metrics, tracing, monitoring and operational dashboards.\nParticipate actively in technical discussions, architecture reviews, design sessions and code reviews.\nLead technical initiatives and coordinate implementation across engineers and collaborating teams when required.\nCollaborate closely with product owners, business analysts, QA engineers, frontend engineers, DevOps teams, architects and other stakeholders.\nMentor and support other engineers through onboarding, knowledge sharing, technical feedback and coaching.\nContribute to shared engineering standards, guidelines, development practices, and reusable solutions across teams.\nExplore and apply emerging technologies, including AI-assisted engineering and AI-enabled backend solutions, where they provide measurable business or engineering value.\nRequired skills\nStrong professional experience developing backend applications with Java.\nStrong experience with Spring Boot and the Spring ecosystem.\nProven experience designing and operating microservices in production environments.\nSolid understanding of distributed systems, system integration and architectural trade-offs.\nExperience designing and consuming RESTful APIs and integration contracts.\nExperience with asynchronous communication, messaging or event-driven architectures.\nExperience with relational databases and SQL.\nPractical knowledge of at least one NoSQL database.\nExperience with automated testing and software quality practices.\nExperience with Docker, Kubernetes or other containerized environments.\nUnderstanding of CI/CD principles and modern software delivery practices.\nAbility to take ownership of technical solutions and drive them through to production.\nAbility to balance business requirements, delivery timelines, quality and long-term maintainability.\nStrong communication and collaboration skills in a multicultural and cross-functional environment.\nProfessional working proficiency in English.\nPreferred skills\nExperience with Apache Kafka or other enterprise messaging platforms.\nPractical experience with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases.\nExperience with Redis, caching strategies or distributed in-memory data stores.\nExperience with Kubernetes, Helm, and cloud platforms such as Azure.\nExperience with observability, performance tuning and production troubleshooting.\nExperience with Domain-Driven Design, including bounded contexts, aggregates and service boundaries.\nExperience with Clean Architecture, Hexagonal Architecture or similar architectural approaches.\nExperience building shared platforms, reusable libraries or solutions consumed by multiple teams.\nExperience with Elasticsearch or other distributed search technologies.\nExperience with security mechanisms such as OAuth2, JWT and secure API integration.\nFamiliarity with Python is considered a plus.\nExposure to large-scale, highly available or mission-critical systems.\nExperience leading technical initiatives or mentoring engineers.\nExposure to AI/LLM-enabled applications, RAG, embeddings and AI-assisted software development.\nWhat we
