By equipping the brightest minds with the best resources available, we provide an invaluable edge in real estate.\nAs a CoStar Senior Software Engineer on the Data Automation team, you will play a key role in expanding the data platform that supports all of CoStar Group’s largest brands, including CoStar Suite, LoopNet and Homes.com. You will design and build large-scale systems while developing a deep understanding of the business and customer needs they support. Successful candidates will demonstrate a willingness to learn, adopt, and apply AI technologies responsibly to solve complex business and engineering challenges.\nThis position is located in Richmond, VA and the work schedule will be 4 days onsite with 1 day remote.\n\nResponsibilities\nDesign, build, and operate large-scale, distributed, API-driven systems that support tens of thousands of users. \nLead the design and implementation of AI-powered software solutions that enhance customer experiences, improve platform intelligence, and unlock new product capabilities across CoStar brands. \nBuild and integrate AI skills, agents, tools, and intelligent workflows into internal systems and customer-facing applications. \nUse AI models to enhance monitoring, replayability, observability, and diagnostic capabilities, improving system reliability and reducing operational risk. \nImplement telemetry-driven solutions that proactively identify anomalies, performance bottlenecks, and potential customer-impacting issues. \nBuild intelligent automation that streamlines research workflows, improves information discovery and data quality, and increases operational efficiency. \nCollaborate with Product, Research, Data, and Engineering teams to identify opportunities where AI and automation can create measurable business value. \nProduce robust, efficient, and maintainable code using React.js, JavaScript, C#, .NET Framework, AWS services including DynamoDB, Amazon S3, and AWS Lambda, and SQL Server. \nLead software design discussions, establish development standards, conduct code reviews, and mentor engineers across projects and teams. \nContinuously evaluate emerging technologies, industry trends, and engineering practices that can strengthen CoStar’s technology platform. \n\nQualifications\nBachelor’s Degree from an accredited, not for profit, in person university or college \n7+ years of professional full-stack software development experience building enterprise web applications and distributed systems using React.js, JavaScript, C#, .NET Framework/Web API, and relational databases such as Microsoft SQL Server or PostgreSQL, including database design, SQL development, and performance tuning. \nExperience designing, building, and supporting large-scale distributed, service-oriented systems and web applications in an agile environment. \nUnderstanding of AI technologies and hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Gemini, or Grok. \nExperience with conceptual, logical, and physical data modeling. \nFamiliarity with large language models (LLMs), prompt engineering, intelligent agents, or agent-based architectures. \nExperience with monitoring, telemetry, observability, automated diagnostics, and production troubleshooting. \nUnderstanding of data quality principles, data governance concepts, and data-centric application design. \nTrack record of commitment to prior employers. \n\nPreferred Qualifications\nStrong communication and collaboration skills with business and technical partners. \nExperience with Azure, AWS, or hybrid cloud architectures. \nAdvanced SQL development, query optimization, and performance-tuning experience. \nExperience designing and integrating RESTful web services and enterprise APIs. \nExperience creating conceptual, logical, and physical data models. \nExperience implementing AI agents, workflow automation platforms, or intelligent search solutions. \nExperience applying AI-assisted software development practices to improve engineering productivity, software quality, and delivery speed. \nExperience using machine learning technologies in production systems, such as Azure Machine Learning or AWS SageMaker. \nExperience implementing LLM technologies in production systems using Azure AI Foundry, AWS Bedrock, or comparable platforms. \nWhat’s in it for you?\nWhen you join CoStar Group, you’ll experience a collaborative and innovative culture working alongside the best and brightest to empower our people and customers to succeed.\nWe offer you generous compensation and performance-based incentives.
