The Associate Software Engineer will work to deliver on projects. This job description does not constitute an employment agreement and is subject to change as the needs of Cotiviti and requirements of the job change.\nQualifications\nBachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems or related field or equivalent work experience.\n0-1 year of professional Java development experience.\nStrong grasp of core Java and object-oriented programming: classes, interfaces, inheritance, polymorphism, encapsulation, and exception handling.\nFamiliarity with the Java Collections Framework, generics, streams, and lambdas.\nUnderstanding of basic data structures and algorithms.\nExperience with a build tool (Maven or Gradle) and an IDE (IntelliJ IDEA or Eclipse).\nProficiency with Git and basic branching and pull request workflows.\nBasic knowledge of relational databases and SQL (simple queries, joins, and CRUD operations).\nAbility to read, debug, and explain existing code.\nBasic awareness of secure coding practices: input validation, parameterized queries, and no hard-coded credentials.\nAbility to use AI coding assistants (such as Claude or GitHub Copilot) for development, debugging, and documentation.\nSound judgment with AI output: you review, test, and understand any code before committing it, and you can explain it in a code review.\nStrong organizational, analytical and communication skills (written and verbal).\nAbility to execute project deliverables in a dynamic, fast-paced environment within estimated timelines.\nPreferred Qualifications:\nExperience with Spring or Spring Boot (REST controllers, dependency injection, and configuration).\nExperience writing unit tests with JUnit and mocking with Mockito.\nFamiliarity with REST APIs, JSON, and HTTP fundamentals.\nExposure to JDBC, JPA, or Hibernate.\nBasic understanding of concurrency and multithreading.\nFamiliarity with CI/CD pipelines, Docker, or cloud platforms.\nExposure to Agile and Scrum.\nBasic front-end exposure (such as Angular or React).\nExperience writing effective prompts and using AI to generate unit tests, boilerplate, or documentation, and validating the results.\nUnderstanding of AI limitations, including hallucinated APIs, outdated syntax, and insecure suggestions.\nExposure to agentic or CLI-based coding tools.\nMental Requirements:\nCritical Thinking: Analyze problems objectively and make sound, data-driven decisions.\nAttention to Detail: Maintain accuracy across code, data, and deliverables.\nQuantitative Skills: Apply strong analytical and statistical methods to solve problems.\nData Interpretation: Extract actionable insights from data, metrics, and visualizations.\nCommunication: Clearly explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.\nLearning Agility: Quickly adopt new tools, technologies, and best practices.\nResilience: Adapt to shifting priorities and deliver under pressure.\nIntegrity: Handle data responsibly and uphold engineering and ethical standards.\nPhysical Requirements and Working Conditions:\nRemaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.\nRepeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.\nMust be able to provide a dedicated, secure work area.\nMust be able to provide high-speed internet access / connectivity and office setup and maintenance.\nBase compensation ranges from $77,000 to $97,000 per year.
