Role Overview

Coupang is seeking a Director, Inventory Allocation and Control to lead a critical horizontal planning function that connects Retail growth, fulfillment operations, inventory governance, inbound planning, capacity management, and customer availability.

This leader will own end-to-end inventory planning policy and execution governance, including Days of Cover management, inbound planning, ordering controls, capacity alignment, peak event readiness, business review mechanisms, and planning automation. The role requires a senior planning leader who can make high-quality tradeoff decisions across growth, availability, capacity, working capital, and margin, while keeping customer experience at the center.

The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in retail planning, supply chain planning, S&OP, inventory management, or operations planning. They should be comfortable operating in a fast-paced, data-driven environment, influencing senior cross-functional stakeholders, and building scalable mechanisms that reduce manual work and improve planning quality. E-commerce experience is preferred but not required. Korean language ability is a plus.

What You Will Do

  • Own end-to-end inventory planning policy, governance, and execution across short, medium, and long-term planning horizons.
  • Lead DOC management, inbound planning, capacity alignment, ordering governance, and replenishment control mechanisms.
  • Balance commercial growth, customer availability, fulfillment capacity, working capital, and margin outcomes through clear planning decisions.
  • Partner cross-functionally to identify risks, resolve bottlenecks, and ensure inventory and inbound plans are operationally executable.
  • Lead planning for major seasonal and holiday events, including buildup strategy, capacity readiness, vendor execution, and post-event learnings.
  • Improve inbound planning accuracy, ordering discipline, and visibility into future operational constraints and availability risks.
  • Build scalable mechanisms, dashboards, agents, and workflows that reduce manual work and improve planning quality.
  • Own planning inputs for business reviews, annual planning, goal-setting, and executive-level operating discussions.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team responsible for horizontal inventory planning and inbound planning.
  • Drive a culture of analytical decision-making, ownership, simplification, and cross-functional accountability.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain, engineering, operations, economics, analytics, or a related field
  • 12+ years of experience in retail planning, supply chain planning, inventory management, S&OP, commercial operations, or operations planning
  • 5+ years of people leadership experience, including managing senior managers, managers, or senior individual contributors
  • Strong understanding of inventory planning, replenishment, inbound planning, capacity planning, and demand-supply tradeoffs
  • Demonstrated ability to balance business growth, customer experience, operational constraints, and financial outcomes
  • Proven ability to operate in a fast-paced, ambiguous, data-driven environment and influence senior cross-functional stakeholders
  • Strong analytical judgment, business communication, and executive-level narrative-building skills
  • Ability to build scalable mechanisms and improve operating processes, not just manage recurring execution

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in e-commerce, retail, marketplace, consumer goods, logistics, distribution, or high-volume supply chain environments
  • Experience working at the intersection of commercial teams and operations teams where availability, capacity, cost, and growth tradeoffs must be managed
  • Experience leading S&OP, inventory control, inbound planning, ordering governance, or capacity management functions
  • Experience building planning automation, control towers, dashboards, decision-support systems, or agent-based workflows
  • MBA, master's degree, Korean language ability, or familiarity with SQL, BI tools, forecasting, or optimization methods is a plus
