This role will focus on re-architecting systems for global use cases, enabling scalable and standardized solutions across regions.\nYou will lead one of the key initiatives in rebuilding foundational platform services, driving both technical direction and team development. The platform operates at massive scale, supporting tens of millions of transactions daily and impacting every shipment processed within Coupang’s ecosystem.\nYou will have the opportunity to :\nLead a critical initiative in re-architecting transportation systems for global scalability\nBuild and grow a new engineering team in India, owning end-to-end delivery\nWork on high-scale, event-driven systems processing 30-40 million transactions daily\nSolve complex distributed systems challenges that impact every shipment across the platform\nWhat You Will Do :\nLead, hire, and grow a team of 8-10 engineers, setting a high bar for performance and career development\nDrive the execution of a key platform initiative focused on re-architecting systems for global use cases\nBreak down complex problem statements into clear technical designs and execution plans, partnering with senior engineers\nOwn end-to-end delivery, ensuring projects are executed efficiently with strong planning, tracking, and outcomes\nApply strong program management practices including risk identification, mitigation, and stakeholder communication\nCollaborate cross-functionally with global teams to align on priorities and drive large-scale initiatives forward\nBuild and evolve an event-driven, highly scalable system processing tens of millions of daily transactions\nEstablish a high-performance engineering culture with focus on accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement\nBasic Qualifications \n8+ years of software engineering experience with 3+ years in engineering management\nStrong technical background in Java backend development and distributed systems\nExperience managing teams of 10+ engineers through full development lifecycle\nHands-on experience with relational databases (MySQL, Aurora, TiDB) and NoSQL (DynamoDB)\nExperience with event-driven architectures and streaming platforms (Kafka, Flink, or Spark)\nTrack record of delivering large-scale, high-reliability platforms on time\nStrong communication skills - ability to translate between business stakeholders and engineering teams\nBS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience\nPreferred Qualifications \nExperience working on large-scale distributed or event-driven systems\nPrior experience in e-commerce, transportation, logistics, or platform engineering domains\nExperience building or re-architecting systems for global scalability\nStrong track record of driving cross-team initiatives in fast-paced environments\nExperience hiring and scaling engineering teams in a high-growth setup\nType of work model\nHybrid\nOur Hybrid work model: Coupang hybrid work model is designed to enable a culture of collaboration that acts a catalyst to enrich the experience of employees.
