If you want to be part of tomorrow’s health today, we want to hear from you.\nSr. Engineering Manager\nOperational Engineering & Software Reliability\nTechnology Enablement is building shared engineering capabilities that improve software reliability, security, operational excellence, engineering productivity, and product delivery outcomes across a diverse portfolio of products and platforms.\nWe are seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to build and lead a team responsible for improving software reliability, vulnerability remediation, operational readiness, and engineering effectiveness. This leader will partner closely with Product Engineering, Platform Engineering, Cybersecurity, and Operations teams to establish scalable processes, reduce engineering friction, improve software quality, and create repeatable capabilities that can be leveraged across the enterprise.\nThe ideal candidate combines strong software engineering leadership with experience driving cross-functional transformation initiatives. They are proficient in modern software development practices, can build organizational capabilities from the ground up, and are passionate about improving the systems, tools, and operating models that support software delivery at scale.\nThis role is responsible for establishing a centralized engineering capability focused on vulnerability remediation, software health, dependency management, and engineering sustainability. The successful candidate will help advance automation, AI-assisted engineering practices, and developer productivity solutions while ensuring quality, reliability, and accountability remain core operating principles.\nWhat You'll Do\nBuild and Lead a High-Performing Engineering Team\nRecruit, coach, and develop software engineers responsible for software reliability, vulnerability remediation, software quality, and operational engineering initiatives. \nEstablish a culture of ownership, accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and engineering excellence. \nCreate clear goals, performance expectations, career development plans, and operating principles for the team. \nFoster an enablement mindset focused on helping engineering teams deliver secure, reliable, and maintainable software. \nBuild organizational capabilities that can scale across multiple applications, products, and business domains. \nEstablish a Scalable Vulnerability Remediation Capability\nPartner with Cybersecurity teams to translate vulnerability findings and risk insights into actionable engineering work. \nDevelop repeatable processes for intake, prioritization, remediation, validation, escalation, and reporting. \nCreate visibility into remediation progress, software health trends, dependency risks, and recurring issues. \nStandardize how engineering teams respond to security and software health challenges across the portfolio. \nDrive consistency in ownership, accountability, and execution of remediation activities. \nScale successful practices and capabilities across additional products and engineering organizations over time. \nImprove Software Reliability and Quality\nLead initiatives that improve reliability, maintainability, operational readiness, software quality, and long-term engineering sustainability. \nPartner with Product Engineering leaders to reduce recurring operational interruptions, technical debt, and engineering toil. \nSupport efforts related to dependency management, security remediation, modernization, software health, validation, and observability. \nIdentify common engineering challenges and develop reusable solutions, standards, automation, and tooling. \nEstablish scalable practices that improve software delivery outcomes while maintaining appropriate controls and quality standards. \nBuild Operational Excellence Capabilities\nCollaborate with leaders across Technology Enablement, Product Engineering, Platform Engineering, Cybersecurity, and Operations. \nEvaluate existing software delivery and operational processes to identify inefficiencies and improvement opportunities. \nDevelop operating models that improve consistency, efficiency, transparency, and quality outcomes. \nAdvance reliability engineering, software health management, and operational support capabilities. \nPromote effective engineering practices that enable teams to deliver faster while maintaining security and reliability standards. \nDrive Cross-Functional Discovery and Transformation\nLead exploratory efforts to understand challenges affecting engineering productivity, software quality, and operational performance. \nWork with stakeholders to identify root causes, recurring patterns, organizational constraints, and process gaps. \nTranslate findings into prioritized initiatives, roadmaps, and measurable improvement plans. \nInfluence technical direction and organizational change across teams without relying solely on direct authority. \nEstablish feedback loops and measurement frameworks that support continuous improvement. \nAdvance Engineering Productivity and AI Readiness\nEvaluate opportunities to improve developer productivity through automation, tooling, process simplification, and modern engineering practices. \nPartner with technology leaders to advance responsible adoption of AI-assisted engineering solutions. \nHelp define approaches for validation, governance, and quality control of AI-enabled workflows. \nAssess emerging technologies and practices that improve software delivery effectiveness, reliability, and engineering efficiency. \nPromote a culture of experimentation, learning, and continuous modernization. \nMeasure and Communicate Impact\nDefine and monitor engineering health, reliability, quality, operational, and productivity indicators. \nCreate transparency into delivery outcomes, software health trends, remediation effectiveness, and organizational progress. \nUse data to identify opportunities, prioritize investments, and guide decision-making. \nCommunicate recommendations, progress, risks, and outcomes to technical and executive stakeholders. \nDemonstrate measurable business value through improved engineering effectiveness and reduced operational friction. \nPriority will be given to Candidate who reside in the Columbus, OH metropolitan area.\nWe are unable to provide sponsorship for this role presently or in the future.\nMinimum Qualifications\nDegree or equivalent experience. Typically requires 9+ years of professional experience and 1+ years of supervisory and/or management experience.\nCritical Skills\n8+ years of software engineering experience. \n3+ years of engineering leadership experience, including direct people-management responsibilities. \nExperience leading software reliability, software quality, platform engineering, modernization, DevSecOps, operational engineering, or engineering productivity initiatives. \nExperience partnering with Product Engineering, Cybersecurity, Platform Engineering, and Operations organizations. \nStrong knowledge of modern software development lifecycle practices, DevOps principles, and software delivery methodologies. \nExperience establishing engineering processes, operating models, standards, or governance frameworks. \nExperience using engineering and operational metrics to drive decisions and measure outcomes. \nExperience leading cross-functional initiatives within complex, matrixed organizations. \nStrong stakeholder management and executive communication skills. \nDemonstrated ability to influence teams and leaders across organizational boundaries. \nPreferred\nExperience with vulnerability remediation, application security, dependency management, or secure software development practices. \nExperience with software quality engineering, site reliability engineering, observability, or application support functions. \nExperience leading engineering teams supporting multiple products, platforms, or business domains. \nExperience working with cloud-native platforms and distributed systems. \nExperience partnering with cybersecurity, compliance, risk, or software governance programs. \nExperience implementing automation and AI-assisted engineering practices. \nExperience improving deployment, testing, release management, validation, or developer productivity workflows. \nExperience working within regulated industries and complex enterprise environments. \nSuccess in the First Year\nSuccessful candidates will:\nBuild trusted relationships with Product Engineering, Platform Engineering, Cybersecurity, and Operations leaders. \nEstablish a high-performing engineering organization focused on software reliability, operational excellence, and vulnerability remediation. \nImplement scalable processes for prioritizing, managing, and tracking remediation work. \nDeliver measurable improvements in software quality, engineering productivity, and operational effectiveness. \nImprove visibility into software health metrics, remediation progress, and engineering outcomes. \nReduce recurring engineering friction and operational toil through standardization, automation, and process improvements. \nCreate repeatable capabilities that can scale across multiple products and teams. \nDevelop a roadmap for expanding the organizational impact of the Operational Engineering function. \nDemonstrate measurable business value through improved delivery effectiveness, enhanced software health, and reduced engineering risk. \nWe are proud to offer a competitive compensation package at McKesson as part of our Total Rewards.
