This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who thrives in complex technical environments, enjoys solving challenging problems, and can influence technical direction across teams.\nAs a senior member of the engineering organization, you will contribute to architecture, implementation, and delivery of distributed systems while mentoring other engineers and promoting engineering best practices. You will work closely with product, design, and engineering partners to deliver scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions.\nWe are looking for engineers with strong technical foundations, experience building modern applications at scale, and practical experience leveraging contemporary development tools, including AI-assisted coding workflows, to improve productivity and software quality.\nWhat You'll Do\nDesign, develop, test, and deploy scalable software solutions across frontend and backend systems.\n\nLead the implementation of complex features and services within distributed, cloud-based architectures.\n\nTranslate product and business requirements into thoughtful technical designs and implementation plans.\n\nCollaborate with engineers, product managers, and designers throughout the software development lifecycle.\n\nDrive engineering best practices, including code quality, testing, observability, security, and maintainability.\n\nConduct code reviews and provide technical guidance to fellow engineers.\n\nIdentify technical risks early and help teams develop effective mitigation strategies.\n\nContribute to architectural decisions and help establish patterns that enable long-term platform scalability.\n\nChampion continuous improvement through refinement of development processes, tooling, and team practices.\n\nMentor engineers through technical leadership, coaching, and knowledge sharing.\n\nEvaluate and adopt emerging development tools and practices that improve engineering efficiency and product quality.\n\nPriority will be given to candidates who reside in the Columbus, OH Metropolitan area.\nWe are unable to provide sponsorship for this role presently or in the future.\nWhat You'll Bring\nMinimum Qualifications\nDegree or equivalent and typically requires 7+ years of relevant experience.\nEducation\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience\nCritical Skills\n8+ years of professional software engineering experience.\n\nStrong experience building and maintaining production-grade applications in a collaborative team environment.\n\n5+ years of experience with modern frontend technologies such as React, TypeScript, or similar frameworks.\n\n5+ years of experience developing backend services using C# and .NET technologies.\n\nExperience designing and integrating RESTful APIs and/orGraphQLservices.\n\nExperience with distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven architectures.\n\nExperience working with cloud platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure.\n\nStrong understanding of containerization and orchestration technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes.\n\nExperience with relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL.\n\nExperience implementing automated testing strategies and working with modern testing frameworks.\n\nStrong software design, debugging, and problem-solving skills.\n\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills.\n\nDemonstrated ability to influence technical direction and collaborate effectively across teams.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience with asynchronous processing technologies such as Kafka, Redis, or similar messaging and event-streaming platforms.\n\nExperience building highly available, scalable SaaS applications.\n\nFamiliarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices.\n\nExperience using GitHub, GitHub Actions, and related development tooling.\n\nPractical experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, or similar tools to enhance productivity and accelerate development workflows.\n\nExperience defining requirements, acceptance criteria, and technical specifications that improve delivery quality and team alignment.\n\nExperience participating in architecture reviews, design reviews, and cross-functional planning initiatives.\n\nExperience working within Agile product development teams.\n\nWe are proud to offer a competitive compensation package at McKesson as part of our Total Rewards.
