We are now looking for a suitable person to fill the following position in theSchool of Nursing and Health Sciences:
Postdoc (N&HS) (Ref: 26002DK)
Major Duties and Responsibilities
The appointee will be responsible mainly for the following:
Design and conduct research in chemical biology, with particular emphasis on protein biochemistry, protein immobilisation, bioconjugation and enzyme-based biosensor development;
Develop and optimise protein immobilisation and bioconjugation strategies, including surface functionalisation, site-specific conjugation and linker design, to preserve protein activity, accessibility, orientation and stability;
Investigate the effects of immobilisation chemistry, conjugation methods and surface properties on protein function, enzyme activity and biosensor performance;
Design and optimise enzyme-based biochemical assays, including characterisation of enzyme kinetics, reaction mechanisms and assay performance;
Develop and validate biochemical detection platforms, evaluating their sensitivity, specificity, reproducibility, stability and robustness;
Analyse and interpret experimental data, troubleshoot technical challenges and collaborate with an interdisciplinary research team;
Prepare manuscripts, research reports and presentations, and contribute to research funding applications; and
Support research student training, maintain accurate laboratory records and coordinate day-to-day research activities.
Candidates
Candidates should possess the following qualifications, experience and competence:
Hold a PhD in Chemical Biology, Biochemistry, Protein Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering or a closely related discipline, awarded within the past three years. PhD candidates with a strong relevant research background who expect to obtain their degree within the next six months will also be considered;
Have hands-on research experience in chemical biology, particularly protein immobilisation, bioconjugation, protein modification or surface functionalisation;
Possess practical knowledge of protein biochemistry and experience in developing or optimising biochemical assays involving enzymes or other functional proteins;
Demonstrate an understanding of the chemical principles underlying protein-surface interactions, conjugation chemistry and the effects of chemical modification on protein structure and function;
Demonstrate the ability to independently design experiments, develop and optimise laboratory protocols, troubleshoot experimental problems and critically interpret quantitative data;
Have good scientific writing and communication skills in English and the ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary research team; and
Demonstrate research achievements appropriate to their career stage. Experience in site-specific protein conjugation, enzyme kinetics, biosensor development or quantitative data analysis using Python, R, MATLAB or equivalent software would be an advantage.
Terms and Conditions for Appointment
An attractive remuneration package, including basic salary and an end-of-contract gratuity will be offered to the right candidates. Generous annual leave, staff-development sponsorships, medical and dental benefits, and life insurance coverage will also be provided.
