You will play a vital role in maintaining operational readiness and supporting the Naval Service mission of maritime defence and security.\nAbout the Role:\nServe as Head of the Engineering Department on board during sea postings, forming part of the ship’s senior management team.\nLead and manage Engineering Branch personnel, oversee technical operations, and maintain key ship systems including propulsion, power generation, fuel, water, ventilation, air conditioning, and hotel services.\nBe responsible for training and readiness for fire and hull breach scenarios, and the maintenance of related systems and equipment.\nFollowing sea rotation, take up a shore-based appointment within the Naval Dockyard, Naval College (NMCI), or Naval Base, focused on project management, maintenance planning, or technical research.\nParticipate in further development through internally funded training and CPD, with opportunities to pursue qualifications in Project Management, Engineering, Health & Safety, and work toward Chartered Engineer status.\nRequirements:\nCitizenship: Irish citizen or legally entitled to work in Ireland\nCharacter & Fitness: Must meet medical, physical, and security clearance standards\nAge: Under 50 years on 31 December in the year of application\nQualifications (or national equivalent):Certificate of Competency (Marine Engineering Officer) Class 1 or Class 2 (Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport)\nOr a Marine qualification deemed equivalent by the Minister for Defence\n\nSalary & Benefits:\nBasic salary: €57,955 with annual increments\nNaval Service Allowance: €20,570\nAdditional allowances for overseas service: Starting at €15,000\nPlease note: You will be based at the Naval Base, Haulbowline, Cork.
