The right candidate can ask thoughtful questions, organize complicated information, protect technical accuracy, and adjust the message for both technical and nontechnical audiences.\nCORE COMPETENCIES:\nImplementing Vision and Values: Keeps the organization's vision and values at the forefront of decision-making and action.\nSafety Orientation: Recognizes conditions that affect employee safety, takes responsible action, and promotes safety throughout the organization.\nCustomer Focus: Works to understand the needs of internal and external customers and provides clear, accurate, and useful solutions.\nContributing to Team Success: Works cooperatively with others and supports shared goals across teams and functions.\nQuality Orientation: Protects the accuracy, consistency, readability, and usefulness of technical content and documentation.\nWork Ethic: Maintains and promotes ethical, professional, and organizational standards in all business activities.\nContinuous and Applied Learning: Actively builds knowledge of products, processes, customers, technologies, and industry topics and applies that learning on the job.\nProductivity Orientation: Plans and completes assignments, review cycles, and projects according to agreed priorities and deadlines.\nESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:\nTechnical Content and Storytelling\nInterview engineers, operations leaders, quality professionals, sales personnel, trainers, executives, and other subject-matter experts to capture and translate technical knowledge.\nDevelop technical articles, white papers, case studies, product and capability content, frequently asked questions, website content, and industry publications.\nCreate and maintain technical sales and customer-support materials in partnership with Marketing, Sales, and Business Development.\nTranslate complex technical concepts into clear, accurate, audience-appropriate content without losing the meaning behind the information.\nOrganize content using effective structures, terminology, examples, references, and supporting visuals that improve understanding and usability.\nInternal Documentation and Knowledge Sharing\nSupport the development and maintenance of training materials, process documentation, work instructions, standard operating procedures, and other internal knowledge resources.\nWork with process owners and technical personnel to understand required tasks, sequences, controls, terminology, user needs, and supporting information.\nDevelop documentation that helps employees find information and understand or perform assigned processes consistently.\nHelp capture knowledge for new, changing, or specialized processes when information is incomplete or spread across multiple sources.\nResearch Review and Content Standards\nResearch utility-industry topics, technologies, regulations, market developments, customer challenges, and other approved subjects to support relevant content.\nReview technical content for accuracy, consistency, terminology, readability, usability, and alignment with DIS-TRAN Steel brand and communication standards.\nEstablish and maintain approved technical content standards, terminology, templates, style guidance, and documentation practices.\nCoordinate technical review and approval with the appropriate subject-matter experts before content is published or distributed.\nMaintain organized source materials, references, approvals, review comments, revisions, and final documentation.\nCreative Partnership and Publishing\nPartner with Creative Services to translate technical information into diagrams, graphics, presentations, videos, and other visual formats.\nPrepare content briefs, technical explanations, labels, captions, and review feedback for visual and multimedia deliverables.\nPartner with the Marketing Administrator to publish and distribute approved technical content through the website, email, and other digital channels.\nSupport repurposing approved technical content across formats and channels while preserving accuracy, context, and brand consistency.\nREQUIREMENTS FOR TECHNICAL WRITER:\nRequired Skills\nBachelor's degree in Technical Communication, Communications, English, Engineering, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered.\nThree to five years of experience in technical writing, technical communications, documentation, engineering communications, manufacturing communications, or a related field preferred.\nDemonstrated ability to understand complex information and communicate it clearly to technical and nontechnical audiences.\nStrong interviewing, research, writing, editing, proofreading, and information-organization skills.\nAbility to collaborate effectively with engineers, operations professionals, executives, and other subject-matter experts.\nStrong attention to detail and commitment to technical accuracy, consistency, and follow-through.\nAbility to manage multiple assignments, review cycles, stakeholders, and deadlines.\nProficiency with Microsoft 365 and the ability to learn content-management, collaboration, document-control, and other business applications.\nPreferred Skills\nExperience in manufacturing, engineering, utilities, energy, infrastructure, or another technical industry.\nExperience developing both external technical content and internal documentation.\nExperience writing technical articles, white papers, case studies, product or capability content, training materials, work instructions, or standard operating procedures.\nExperience managing structured review, approval, revision, and publication workflows with multiple subject-matter experts.\nExperience collaborating with designers or multimedia professionals on diagrams, graphics, presentations, videos, or other visual content.\nFamiliarity with content-management systems, document-management systems, version control, or technical-authoring tools.\nWHY JOIN DIS-TRAN STEEL:\nAt DIS-TRAN Steel, your work will help turn decades of engineering, manufacturing, and industry knowledge into content people can actually use.
