This person designs and implements data products to enable other CREW teams and to expand the capabilities of CREW’s intelligence platform. These data products can range from constructing bespoke data transformations or models to extract deeper insights from wastewater data, to developing dashboards or other tooling to facilitate access and engagement with these insights.\nThis role blends data expertise and production code-writing abilities with cross-functional communication excellence: effective specification gathering from key stakeholders, skillful translation of specifications to appropriate product designs that assure real needs are being met, thoughtful and defensible production-grade implementation of data approaches, and stewardship of cyclical processes of feedback and iteration.\nThe ideal candidate is a strong data professional who can not only engage with scientists, engineers, and non-technical colleagues to develop a useful dashboard, visualization, or model, but who can also maximize the impact of the resultant data product via stakeholder education and feedback-driven iteration.\nKey Responsibilities\nDesign Data Products\nDrive discussion with stakeholders to establish a clear articulation of the problem to be solved, whether it be a problem of commercial strategy or wastewater process.\n\nCraft a proposed solution that specifically addresses the identified problem.\n\nBe the authority on what flavor of data product would be most appropriate and impactful as the solution, deeply informed by the domain expertise of your colleagues.\n\nImplement Data Products\nDevelop visualizations, dashboards, tools, and models to improve company-wide access to and understanding of wastewater process data by writing production-quality code and employing coding best practices.\n\nContribute to the extension and maintenance of CREW’s intelligence platform codebase.\n\nBe a Steward of the Intelligence Platform\nEducate colleagues on effective use and engagement with data products.\n\nCollect feedback and iterate on data products to maximize utility and impact.\n\nUnearth data-related problems and platform-capability potential through deep-listening and thoughtful dialog with colleagues, and take initiative to elevate and galvanize efforts to address.\n\nExperience Requirements\n4+ years experience as a collaborative data professional (data scientist, data analyst, data engineer).\n\nAcademic and professional background that pairs data or computer science with environmental or natural science.\n\nPython proficiency, especially with scientific (numpy, pandas), machine learning (scikit-learn, pytorch), and visualization (matplotlib, seaborn, plotly) libraries.\n\nExperience building for non-technical stakeholders and designing thoughtful data visualizations.\n\nComfortable collecting requirements and iterating based on feedback.\n\nClear communication and documentation habits.\n\nPreferred, but not required experiences: MRV, wastewater modeling, process-based modeling, geospatial data analysis & modeling, physics-informed machine learning.\n\nComfortable working in a fast-paced, early-stage, or evolving company environment.\n\nYou practice extreme ownership (no task is too small).\n\nYou love being in the trenches with your team and working with high empathy.\n\nYou have a growth mindset.\n\nCompensation\nCompensation at the time of offer is unique to each candidate and based on a variety of factors such as skill set, experience, qualifications, and work location. Salary is one part of the total compensation and benefits package. Other benefits for eligible employees may include: equity through the form of option grants, flexible paid time off, 401(k) plan, well equipped office environment, and health benefits offerings.\nThe expected base salary range for this role is $90,000 - $120,000. This range represents the company’s estimate for this position at the time of posting however actual compensation may vary based on skills, experience, location, role scope, and business needs.\nAbout the Company\nCREW’s technology and services make wastewater treatment cheaper and more efficient, while permanently sequestering CO₂.\nLeveraging advanced chemistry, natural minerals, and AI, we’ve developed and are deploying a category-defining process intensification technology, with decarbonization at its core. We are currently deploying this technology across the US and Europe. In addition, we’ve signed $40M+ in carbon removal offtake agreements with leading corporations looking to meet their climate goals, supercharging geographical CREW’s expansion.\nCREW has offices and labs in New Haven, CT and offices in Brooklyn, NY.\nCREW Insights\nCREW raises $25M of funding to scale wastewater treatment optimization technology as climate solution\n\nA climate fix that could cut your water bill (The Wall Street Journal)\n\nLeading U.S. water utility HRSD partners with CREW to deploy process intensification technology (Wastewater Digest)\n\nThe Colorado Energy Office awards $2.35M to CREW’s wastewater treatment CDR tech (Carbon Herald)\n\nCREW signed a carbon credit offtake agreement with the Frontier Climate Fund (Reuters)\n\nCREW delivers pioneering wastewater alkalinity enhancement credits (Carbon Herald)\n\nCREW recognized as one of the most promising climate tech startups (Business Insider)\n\nEqual Opportunity Employer\nWe are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company.
