You will develop mechanical designs for new and existing products by applying engineering and fabrication principles to product designs for the consumer market in accordance with business needs and the product road map. You will lead and mentor other engineers in the company and individuals both senior and junior to you and at the same level as you. You exhibit a strong capability to exercise judgement, communication with a wide variety of team members internally to the company and externally, and the ability to both see the future of our product development as well as design for the current state, all with excellence.\nEssential Duties\nDevelop concepts and ideas for new products or methods to improve existing products.\nDesign mechanisms, drive systems, sheet metal, plastic housinvbgs and components in support of new products\nDevelop cost estimates based on product concepts or designs\nUse engineering principles to develop the structural design of products by incorporating mechanical and electrical subsystems to meet industrial design, marketing, and customer requirements to meet project schedules.\nSpecify materials and components in designs\nManage multiple design projects at once. Work independently with little or no direction. Keep management informed and apprised of design. Work with other functional groups (marketing, sales, customer service, etc.) within the company to develop and evaluate designs that meet customer needs.\nPresent and participate in design reviews and update designs as required.\nDevelop schedules for part and product development.\nProactively identify risks and develop and execute risk reduction measures\nProblem solve- identify root cause, verify the root cause through on/off testing and implement both corrective and preventative actions to resolve problems\nKeep appraised of the customer experience related to company products.\nWork with design and/or manufacturing partners to ensure manufacturability and smooth product ramps leading up to production.\nPerform testing of designs to prove functionality and reliability.\nGenerate design specifications and drawings for external design and manufacturing activities.\nApply statistical methods such as process capability studies and DOE’s in the development and improvement of products.\nMentor other engineers through out the design cycle\nRequired\nBachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering\n5+ Years of applicable experience\nRequired Knowledge, Skills and Responsibilities\nExperience designing consumer based products similar to ours such as crafting machines, inkjet printers or similar electro-mechanical devices, medical devices or similar.\nProficient in the use of 3D CAD (CREO preferred but also acceptable are SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and engineering analysis tools (e.g., ANSYS, MATLAB).\nInterest in and an aptitude for robotics, kinematics, dynamics, mechatronics, mechanism design, etc.\nExperienced in injection molded plastics design, tooling best practices and process tuning.\nStrong understanding of mechanical systems, materials, and manufacturing processes.\nFamiliar with sheet metal design and fabrication processes\nFamiliar with rapid prototype techniques and processes\nProficient in the application of GD&T\nEffective communicator.\nAbility to work independently with minimal direction\nPreferred\nPrevious experience with ODMs\n We’ve Got You Covered\nAt Cricut, we take care of our people.
