Because here’s the remarkable truth: When we all make together, we make all things possible.\nLet’s make.\n Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer: Test Development Engineering\nLocation: South Jordan, Utah (onsite)\nDepartment: Quality Assurance\nAs a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Test Development Engineering, you will play a critical role in the design, validation, and sustainment of precision assembly, test, and calibration equipment. You will be responsible for designing and maintaining jigs, fixtures, and metrology test systems that ensure product performance, repeatability, and compliance with quality standards. Your work will directly enable calibration traceability, measurement accuracy, and test automation across manufacturing and product validation environments. You will also manage documentation, test protocols, and calibration procedures to ensure long-term reliability and compliance of test and measurement assets.\nKey Responsibilities:\nDesign and Development:\nConceptualize, design, and document assembly jigs, test fixtures, and precision metrology systems to support both production and validation testing.\nDevelop custom calibration and test instruments, including mechanical, pneumatic, and electro-mechanical assemblies for high-accuracy measurements.\nIntegrate sensors, load cells, displacement transducers, pressure gauges, and other instrumentation into test systems to support product calibration and verification.\nCollaborate with cross-functional teams (Design, Manufacturing, Quality, Calibration Labs, and Contract Manufacturers) to define test requirements and system capabilities.\nUtilize CAD software (Creo, SolidWorks) to create detailed 3D models and drawings of mechanical systems, with GD&T applied for precision alignment and repeatability.\nGenerate and maintain Requirement Documents, Calibration Procedures, and Test System Specifications to ensure alignment between product and test design intent.\nParticipate in supplier design reviews and qualification of external test and calibration equipment.\nTesting, Validation, and Calibration:\nDevelop and validate test procedures, calibration methods, and verification plans for measurement systems and mechanical fixtures.\nEnsure measurement system analysis (MSA), gage R&R, and traceability to NIST or equivalent standards in all calibration processes.\nConduct statistical evaluations of test data to assess system reliability, repeatability, and reproducibility.\nAnalyze performance results and implement design improvements to maintain precision, accuracy, and robustness under production conditions.\nCollaborate with electronics and software engineers to define mechanical interfaces for automated test systems and integrate sensors into data acquisition platforms.\nMaintenance and Troubleshooting:\nDiagnose and resolve issues with jigs, fixtures, or test systems, including alignment errors, sensor drift, and calibration failures.\nDevelop preventive maintenance and recalibration schedules for all test and measurement equipment.\nSupport production and test engineering teams by providing quick-turn mechanical solutions to test station downtime or measurement deviations.\nDocumentation:\nCreate comprehensive documentation for design specifications, calibration procedures, maintenance manuals, and traceability records.\nMaintain revision-controlled records for test system configurations, calibration certificates, and design changes.\nEnsure compliance with internal quality management systems and industry standards (ISO 17025, ISO 9001, or equivalent).\nContinuous Improvement:\nIdentify opportunities to enhance test accuracy, throughput, and system robustness through mechanical and process improvements.\nImplement design-for-calibration and design-for-test principles in future product and fixture designs.\nStay current with advances in precision mechanics, metrology instrumentation, and automated test system design.\nParticipate in continuous improvement initiatives, lean design efforts, and equipment standardization programs.\nBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.\n10+ years of experience in mechanical design, test and calibration equipment development, or precision metrology systems.\nProficiency in CAD software (Creo, SolidWorks) and related engineering analysis tools (FEA, tolerance analysis).\nStrong understanding of mechanical systems, pneumatic and electromechanical integration, and manufacturing processes.\nDeep knowledge of measurement science, tolerance analysis, and statistical methods for calibration and product qualification.\nExperience in test system design, metrology instrumentation, and mechanical calibration processes.\nHands-on experience with mechanical test setups, data acquisition, and troubleshooting of measurement systems.\nExcellent analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.\nStrong communication skills and ability to lead cross-functional technical efforts.\nPreferred Qualifications:\nExperience in consumer electronics, precision mechanisms, or high-volume manufacturing.\nFamiliarity with SPC, capability studies, MSA (Gage R&R), and reliability analysis.\nKnowledge of PLM systems, and familiarity with ISO 17025 or equivalent calibration lab practices.\nCertification or training in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Metrology.\nWorking Conditions:\n5 days (M-F) in our South Jordan Utah office with 3-4 trips to Asia per year\nHands-on work in lab and prototype environments involving precision test and calibration equipment.\n We’ve got you covered\nAt Cricut, we take care of our people.
