The role focuses on building scalable back-end services, integrating systems through APIs, optimising databases and supporting reliable delivery in cloud-based environments.\nResponsibilities\nArchitect server-side components and services that form the backbone of web applications, employing best practices in Python programming. \nDevelop and maintain RESTful APIs to facilitate seamless communication between front-end and back-end systems. \nDesign, implement and optimise database schemas and queries to ensure efficient data storage and retrieval processes. \nManage database security measures to protect sensitive information, ensuring compliance with data protection standards. \nEnhance application performance by identifying bottlenecks and optimising server-side code and database queries. \nImplement scalable architectures to handle increased user load and data volume, leveraging cloud services and containerisation. \nConduct regular code reviews and use vulnerability scanning tools to identify and address potential security issues. \nImplement security protocols and standards to safeguard applications against threats and ensure data privacy. \nCollaborate closely with front-end developers, UI/UX designers, product managers and other stakeholders to deliver quality web application solutions. \nHelp translate business requirements into technical specifications and adjust implementations based on feedback. \nSet up and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate testing and deployments, ensuring consistent and rapid delivery of applications. \nParticipate in deploying applications in cloud environments, using infrastructure-as-code and configuration management tools. \nActively engage in debugging and resolving issues raised during testing or reported in production. \nWrite technical documentation. \nSpecific expertise\nEQF 6 with a focus on Computer Science. \nProficiency in Python and experience with web frameworks such as Django, Flask or FastAPI. \nExperience with code linters and formatters such as pylint, black or flake8. \nExperience with AI-powered code assistants such as Amazon Kiro or GitHub Copilot. \nStrong understanding of RESTful design and implementation. \nSolid experience with relational databases such as Oracle or PostgreSQL and non-relational databases such as Elasticsearch or MongoDB. \nExcellent knowledge of ORM, schema design and efficient queries. \nExpertise in containerisation tools such as Docker or Podman and orchestration using Kubernetes. \nKnowledge of vulnerability scanning tools, secure coding practices and standards, including authentication, authorisation and encryption. \nKnowledge of code versioning tools such as Git or SVN. \nKnowledge of DevSecOps tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI or GitHub Actions. \nFamiliarity with configuration management tools such as Ansible. \nExperience with VM management and Linux. \nGood knowledge of the European Commission grant management ecosystem, including eGrants, would be an asset. \nSkills and competencies\nAbility to apply rigour and consistency in back-end development practices. \nAbility to work in a multicultural environment. \nAbility to participate in multilingual meetings. \nAbility to understand, speak and write English;
