This role serves as the technical lead in the field for controls execution and ensures systems are delivered in accordance with contract documents, design intent, and owner expectations.\n\nThe BAS Controls Technician works closely with the Project Manager, engineering team, mechanical contractors, electricians, and customer representatives to coordinate system installation, perform point-to-point verification, develop and validate sequences of operation, and deliver a fully functional, documented, and operator-ready BAS.\n\nThis position requires a strong balance of technical expertise, field coordination, documentation discipline, and professional communication to support efficient project delivery and long-term customer satisfaction.\n\nResponsibilities\nProject Execution & System Startup\nInstall, configure, and commission Carrier i-Vu BAS hardware and software on new construction and retrofit projects.\nPerform controller setup, network configuration, device addressing, and firmware management.\nExecute system startup activities including sensor calibration, device checkout, and functional testing.\nComplete point-to-point verification and confirm all field devices operate per design and control intent.\nProgramming & Integration\nDevelop, modify, and validate control logic and sequences of operation in Carrier i-Vu.\nIntegrate BAS with mechanical systems such as AHUs, RTUs, chillers, boilers, pumps, VFDs, and terminal units.\nSupport integration with third-party systems and protocols where required (e.g., BACnet/IP, MS/TP).\nTroubleshoot programming, communication, and operational issues through startup and occupancy.\nCoordination & Communication\nCoordinate field activities with Project Manager, low-voltage installers, electricians, mechanical contractors, and other trades.\nCommunicate technical constraints, schedule impacts, and field conditions clearly and proactively.\nParticipate in jobsite meetings, startup planning, and commissioning reviews as required.\nServe as the primary BAS technical resource during startup, commissioning, and owner acceptance.\nDocumentation & Closeout\nMaintain accurate field documentation including as-built drawings, device lists, and point schedules.\nAssist with development and completion of commissioning checklists and startup reports.\nSupport project closeout documentation including O&M manuals, graphics verification, and backups.\nEnsure system readiness for inspections, functional performance testing, and owner training.\nCustomer Support & Training\nSupport owner demonstrations, system walk-throughs, and operator training sessions.\nAssist in resolving punch list items and post-startup adjustments.\nProvide professional, solution-oriented interaction with customers and facility staff.\nPerform other duties as assigned \n\nQualifications\nHigh school diploma, GED, or equivalent\n3+ years of experience in BAS controls installation, startup, and commissioning.\nUnderstanding of HVAC mechanical systems and control strategies.\nAbility to read and interpret control drawings, sequences of operation, and specifications.\nProficiency in troubleshooting BAS hardware, software, and communication networks.\nStrong organizational skills with attention to documentation and detail.\nAbility to work independently in the field while maintaining alignment with project goals.\nProfessional communication skills with internal teams and external stakeholders.\nFamiliarity with construction project workflows and commissioning processes.\nValid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as required.\nPreferred Qualifications\nStrong working knowledge of Carrier i-Vu Building Automation Systems; Experience with Carrier i-Vu strongly preferred; equivalent BAS platforms considered.\nTechnical certifications or manufacturer training.\n\nWorking Environment\nWork is performed in primarily commercial, industrial, institutional buildings, or other construction areas including outdoors environments with constant exposure to noise, dust, fumes, noxious odors, gases, mechanical and electrical hazards, metal shavings, moving objects, sharp edges, and temperature extremes.\n\nPhysical Demands\nFrequent and repeated hand and arm movement to manipulate tools and related objects.\nFrequent lifting up to 50 pounds individually, and team lifting heavier items.\nStanding and walking for extended periods of time.\nFrequent climbing of steps, ladders, and in/out/onto vehicles.\nClimb ladders and navigate through building mechanical rooms.\nRegularly bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, reaching, and crouching.\nVisual acuity to drive motor vehicles.\nHearing capacity to receive, perceive, and reach to common driving and working environment noises.\n\nThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the primary duties of this job.
