This role is central to how Crusoe Cloud manages and operates its network infrastructure across diverse environments, providing the tooling that operations and engineering teams rely on to deploy, monitor, and maintain the network reliably at scale. As Crusoe Cloud scales, the reliability and usability of this tooling directly impacts the speed and efficiency of network operations across the company.\nThe ideal candidate is an experienced distributed systems engineer who thrives on solving hard scalability and reliability problems at scale, enjoys mentoring other engineers, and wants ownership over infrastructure that's mission critical to a fast growing cloud provider.\nWhat You'll Be Working On:\nNetwork State Management: Design and develop the systems that manage network state for Crusoe Cloud, including network provisioning, configuration management, topology/routing state, and control plane APIs that other teams and systems rely on.\n\nScaling the Control Plane: Contribute to and help drive engineering efforts to scale control plane systems reliably as Crusoe Cloud grows, handling increasing network scale, device counts, and infrastructure complexity.\n\nMentorship and Code Quality: Mentor fellow engineers and help uphold high standards in design and implementation. Provide guidance on technical assessments and code reviews to maintain quality across the team.\n\nBuild vs. Buy Decisions: Partner closely with product to assess and recommend whether to develop control plane software in house or leverage third party/open source solutions, balancing scalability, cost, and speed.\n\nCross Functional Partnership: Partner with product, operations, and other engineering teams to build control plane systems that align with Crusoe Cloud's growth and networking needs.\n\nReliability Engineering: Help design fault tolerant, distributed control plane systems to ensure high availability and resilience as Crusoe Cloud's network grows.\n\nEngineering Best Practices: Advocate for modern software development, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code (IaC) practices to improve engineering velocity and control plane reliability.\n\nEnd to End Ownership: Take ownership of initiatives, from ideation through development and deployment, delivering control plane infrastructure that drives measurable impact for Crusoe Cloud.\n\nWhat You'll Bring to the Team:\n5+ years of professional software engineering experience, building backend systems in production.\n\nProficiency in at least one modern backend language such as Go, Rust, C++, Java, or Python.\n\nSolid understanding of distributed systems concepts: consensus, state reconciliation, fault tolerance, and high availability design.\n\nTrack record of designing and building scalable, reliable APIs or services used by multiple teams.\n\nFamiliarity with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code tooling (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).\n\nStrong communication skills and experience collaborating cross functionally with product, operations, and other engineering teams.\n\nDemonstrated ability to mentor engineers and contribute to technical direction.\n\nBonus Points:\nExperience with networking software, protocols, or control plane systems (e.g., routing, switching, BGP, SDN).\n\nExperience at a cloud provider, hyperscaler, or large scale data center operator.\n\nFamiliarity with network telemetry/management protocols such as gNMI, gRPC, or NETCONF.\n\nExperience with Kubernetes based orchestration or building custom controllers/operators.\n\nContributions to open source infrastructure or networking projects.\n\nBenefits:\nCompetitive compensation and equity packages\n\nRestricted Stock Units\n\nPaid time off, paid holidays & leave of absence programs\n\nComprehensive health, dental & vision insurance\n\nEmployer contributions to HSA account\n\nPaid parental leave\n\nPaid life insurance, short-term and long-term disability\n\nProfessional development & tuition reimbursement\n\nMental health & wellness support\n\nCommuter benefits (parking & transit)\n\nCell phone stipend\n\n401(k) Retirement plan with company match up to 4% of salary\n\nVolunteer time off\n\nGlobal travel insurance & emergency assistance\n\nDaily meals allowance\n\nAdditional perks & programs specific to location\n\nCompensation Range\nCompensation will be paid in the range of up to $170,000 - $205,000 + Bonus.
