This role serves as the technical bridge between our customers and product teams, ensuring our software delivers value within complex operational technology (OT) environments.\nLeverage field commissioning expertise to drive core engineering decisions. You will work with customers to design custom integrations and complex workflow logic beyond standard playbooks, continuously returning operational feedback to the product team to accelerate scaling.\nWe are looking for someone interested in applying their commissioning knowledge in new ways: combining proven field techniques with software, data, and adjacent technologies to deliver industry-changing products in a fast-growing technology start-up.\nReporting to the Forward Deployment Engineering Manager, the Forward Deployed Engineer will collaborate with product, engineering, and sales to align on the customer’s real operational problem, the product roadmap, and the deployment strategy. This role is a unique opportunity to blend deep technical ownership with customer-facing judgment - owning the outcome in the field and helping turn that outcome into product.\nJob Responsibilities\nWork closely with internal teams and customers to deploy, integrate, and operate our software in live\nprocess control environments until it is in production use\nWrite, configure, and ship the integrations, data flows, and state machine logic required to make the\nproduct work against site-specific systems, constraints, and operating practices\nCommission, test, and validate solutions in customer environments; diagnose issues at the software, data, and control-system boundary and drive them to resolution\nOwn technical outcomes for the, not just the go-live phase, and feed field learnings, reusable connectors, and product gaps back to engineering and product\nCoordinate third-party commissioning and installation personnel where needed, while remaining\naccountable for the technical result\nWork with operators and stakeholders to define success, demonstrate operational value, and capture evidence of adoption and customer outcomes\nApply knowledge of pipeline operations, hydraulic modeling/simulation, and management of change to scope and build solutions that fit real operating processes\nApply Windows server setup and configuration, OPC server setup and configuration, and HMI design in SCADA environments as part of building and commissioning working systems\nTravel nationally and internationally up to 10%\nRequirements + Soft Skills\nBachelor’s degree or Technology Diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical\nEngineering, Computer Engineering, or Controls Engineering (or equivalent experience)\nExtensive experience deploying and supporting complex software in mission-critical environments\nScripting or programming experience (Python, PowerShell, or similar)\nWorking knowledge of Windows Server and network administration\nFamiliarity with SQL, relational databases, and time series databases\nThe ability to translate operational feedback into concrete changes in software logic\nExperience writing specification documents and technical reports\nPrior experience or knowledge of the following is considered an asset:\nExperience leveraging AI-assisted development tools (e.g. Cursor, Claude, GitHub Copilot)\nUnderstanding of industrial communication protocols: OPC-UA, OPC-DA, MQTT, Modbus, or similar\nHands-on SCADA experience (e.g. AVEVA Enterprise SCADA, Inductive Automation Ignition)\nPipeline operations knowledge (e.g. hydraulics, control logic)\nExperience with hydraulic modelling / simulators e.g. DNV Synergi Pipeline Simulator (SPS)\nSoft Skills\nAutonomous Drive & Initiative: Self-motivated, adaptable, and focused on continuous improvement with minimal supervision\nTime Management & Reliability: Strong ability to prioritize tasks, make sound decisions, and consistently meet deadlines\nClear Communication & Collaboration: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the\nability to review team members' work and provide constructive feedback\nAnalytical Problem-Solving: Sharp troubleshooting capabilities paired with responsible, detail-oriented work habits\nWhat we Offer\nCompetitive compensation package, including equity\nComprehensive health benefits\nRemote-first work environment\nFlexible work arrangements\nProfessional development opportunities\nGrowth-mindset culture\nA diverse and inclusive environment\nCruxOCM is an equal-opportunity employer.
