The Lecturer participates collaboratively and professionally with other faculty and staff to promote the general well-being of the department and the college and of the collective and individual interests of its staff and student body. The Lecturer supports and seeks to fulfill the guiding concepts for the College embodied in the philosophy, mission, values, and vision adopted by the Board of Education. This position description is in association with the Lecturer contract.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS\nInstruction & Student Learning\nTeaches assigned courses as scheduled and assumes primary responsibility for and exercises oversight of the curriculum in conjunction with the Department’s policies, ensuring both the rigor of programs and the quality of instruction. \nDesigns curriculum to foster talent in students while modeling inclusive teaching strategies.\nConsiders individual differences of students in order to design and support a range of appropriate learning activities. \nParticipates in the identification of students with academic or other needs and responds by utilizing an appropriate resource. \nUses technology in a manner appropriate to the nature and objectives of courses and programs and communicates clearly to students the expectations concerning the use of such technology. \nKeeps accurate and appropriate records in accordance with the Faculty Handbook and departmental policies. \nMaintains attendance records, determines and submits grades timely and in accordance with established policies and procedures of the College, and communicates progress feedback as well as other relevant information to students throughout the semester. \nCreates and maintains accurate syllabi that incorporates departmental, college, cross-college, and instructor requirements. \nParticipates in the selection of appropriate materials to support course curriculum in accordance with the College’s guidelines. \nConducts classes punctually and in accordance with the prescribed meeting schedule. \nEmploys and assists in the design and development of appropriate assessment techniques to measure students’ performance in achieving course goals and objectives. \nBe a facilitator of learning in a virtual environment.\nStudent Engagement & Advisement\nCreates a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages active and collaborative learning, student effort, academic challenge, student and faculty interaction, and support for learners. \nMaintains posted office hours in accordance with departmental and policies of the College. \nUses technology to assist in communication with students. \nEncourages a sense of community among students for learning both inside and outside the classroom. \nAdvises potential or current students within the discipline about the program, career, or transfer options available to assist with degree completion. \nRefers students to appropriate student and academic support services available at the College or in the community.\nContinuous Improvement\nPromotes continual improvement as part of the cycle of teaching and learning by: assisting, as appropriate, in the maintenance of instructional materials and laboratory facilities; contributing, as appropriate, to the development, selection, and improvement of instructional materials, laboratories, and other instructional facilities; providing guidance in the development, maintenance, and design of course description, course outlines, and syllabi; recommending modifications to the curriculum and participating in the design of new curricula. \nCompletes all mandatory performance evaluation measures within specified time limits and participates in all required training by the College. \nShares best practices with colleagues in formal or informal settings. Participates in instructional, departmental, or institutional research to improve educational effectiveness. \nEvaluates teaching and assessment practices to continue improving them. \nProvides feedback, as appropriate, regarding the general operations of the department, division, and the College. \nAttends faculty meetings as called by the President, Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dean or Department Chairperson.\nProfessional Development\nEmploys student, administrative and self-appraisals to establish goals and objectives for professional development and participates in professional development activities. \nContributes, as appropriate, to the planning, evaluation, and/or presentation of college professional development programs. \nMaintains required professional credentials, licensing, and continuing education hours as disciplinary standards dictate.\nCulture of Respect\nFosters and maintains a safe environment of respect and inclusion for faculty, staff, students, and members of the community.\nMinimum Qualifications\nMaster’s Degree from an accredited academic institution in Microbiology or related field with equivalent microbiology graduate level coursework.\nExperience in the procedures of a teaching/learning laboratory setting.\nPreferred Qualifications\nPh.D in Microbiology is preferred. \nL icenses and Certifications\nState Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s). \nCSCC has the right to revise this position description at any time.
