Many of our iconic innovations were once considered impossible until someone, just like you, joined us and took on the challenge.\nVisit CSIRO.au for more information.\nThe opportunity\nJoin the Oceanographic Calibration Facility in Hobart and contribute to the delivery of high-quality calibration services for oceanographic instruments used by CSIRO, research organisations and consulting clients across Australia and Oceania.\nAs the Calibration Facility Technician, you will undertake hands-on calibration work, operate specialised instrumentation and equipment, collect and analyse data, and prepare calibration reports. You will also support instrument freight, safe laboratory operations and the Facility’s compliance with NATA 17025 accreditation requirements.\nThis role offers on-the-job training in oceanographic instruments, the handling and care of reference standards, and the Facility’s customised calibration systems. Through your work, you will support marine science by helping transfer primary-standard metrology to clients and their instrumentation for research and other applications.\nYour high-level duties will include:\nUndertake calibration activities in accordance with NATA 17025 requirements and the Laboratory Quality Manual.\nOperate instrumentation and calibration equipment and collect high-quality technical data.\nAnalyse and process calibration data and prepare accurate calibration reports.\nAssist with the timely calibration, receipt and dispatch of oceanographic instruments.\nSupport the Facility’s ongoing NATA 17025 accreditation for relevant calibration parameters.\nCommunicate effectively and respectfully with colleagues, clients and suppliers.\nSafely install equipment in calibration baths and handle calibration weights using appropriate manual-handling practices.\nContribute to improvements in processes, practices and service delivery.\nSupport safe laboratory operations and comply with relevant health, safety and environmental requirements.\nUndertake a range of tasks with varying levels of technical difficulty.\nRole particulars\nLocation: Hobart, TAS\nSalary: AU$76k - AU$96k per annum (pro rata for part-time), plus 15.4% superannuation\nTenure: Specified term of 2 years, Full-time\nReference: 104106\nAs the successful candidate, you will bring:\nEssential\nAn appropriate diploma or degree and/or equivalent relevant work experience demonstrating laboratory skills.\nStrong investigative, analytical and critical-thinking skills.\nA sound foundation in mathematics and experience using tools such as Microsoft Excel and Word.\nDemonstrated high-level written and verbal communication skills that support productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.\nExperience in working within standard operating procedures, handling equipment and analysing data.\nExperience adhering to relevant safety protocols.\nDemonstrated ability to work collaboratively and contribute effectively within a skilled and committed team.\nFor full details about this role, and other criteria, please review the Position Description.\nNot sure if you meet all the criteria?\nWhile it is CSIRO policy that the successful candidate must meet all the essential criteria, there are many ways to demonstrate this.
