Many of our iconic innovations were once considered impossible until someone, just like you, joined us and took on the challenge.\nVisit CSIRO.au for more information.\nThe opportunity\nAs the Facilities and Data Centre Operations Technical Generalist, you’ll play a key role in supporting and managing CSIRO’s national on-premises and colocation Data Centres.\nYou’ll oversee critical infrastructure, coordinate maintenance and lifecycle upgrades, manage contractors and vendors, and support the delivery of minor projects and continuous service improvements. You’ll also administer the Data Centre Infrastructure Management (DCIM) system, including Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure IT platform, while working collaboratively across teams to support CSIRO’s national research infrastructure.\nThe role offers a mix of flexible remote and on-site work, with occasional interstate travel.\nHigh-level duties include:\nActively manage, monitor and support the day-to-day operations of CSIRO’s on-premise and colocation Data Centres across Australia.\nAssist with the implementation of installations, lifecycle upgrades and maintenance activities for critical Data Centre infrastructure, ensuring operational continuity and alignment with service delivery standards.\nEngage with vendors and contractors performing corrective and preventative maintenance tasks, ensuring compliance with safety and procedural guidelines.\nComplete allocated tasks to ensure timely and efficient execution of Data Centre work packages and project milestones.\nMonitor Data Centre Infrastructure Management (DCIM) systems-particularly Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxureIT-to ensure optimal performance, availability, and capacity of critical supporting infrastructure.\nContribute to the teams strategic planning and support the development and implementation of Data Centre best practices and methodologies.\nRole particulars\nLocation and office arrangements: Black Mountain, Canberra ACT\nSalary: AU$76,068 - AU$96,813 per annum, plus 15.4% superannuation\nTenure & work schedule: Indefinite\nReference: 104412\nAs the successful candidate, you will bring:\nEssential criteria\nRelevant certifications/diploma/bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant work experience in a Data Centre, Facilities or IT operations environment with a strong willingness to learn and adapt.\nDemonstrated ability to follow standard operating procedures, assist with data centre equipment installations and maintenance, and apply logical problem-solving to operational tasks under general guidance.\nAn understanding of safety protocols, site procedures and guidelines when assisting staff and contractors with maintenance activities.\nA proactive mindset focused on noticing how things work to make immediate, practical changes to improve efficiency or quality.\nDemonstrated computer literacy and competency using tools such as Microsoft 365, MS teams, Atlassian confluence, and DCIM tools.\nExcellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to present factual information clearly and a collaborative approach to seeking the ideas of others.\nMust hold and maintain a valid full Australian Drivers licence\nDesirable\nExperience in configuring and administering the Schneider Electric DCIM suite of products, particularly StruxureWare and EcoStruxureIT.\nExperience working in a geographically dispersed team.\nExperience working in a research environment.\nFor full details about this role, and other criteria, please review the Position Description.\nNot sure if you meet all the criteria?\nWhile it is CSIRO policy that the successful candidate must meet all the essential criteria, there are many ways to demonstrate this.
