Joining CSIRO’s Information and Infrastructure Services (IIS) team, you will help deliver the cloud, compute, storage and virtualisation platforms that underpin the organisation’s research and business operations. Working with technologies including VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), VMware vSphere and associated infrastructure services, you will deliver reliable, secure and scalable infrastructure that supports critical research, enterprise and scientific workloads.\nWorking across a diverse technology environment, you will collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to support innovation and enable world-class science through modern, high-performing technology solutions.\nThis role contributes to the design, implementation and lifecycle management of virtualisation services while driving automation, platform modernisation and operational excellence to achieve positive customer outcomes.\nHigh-level duties include:\nMaintain and support VMware vSphere, VCF, and related virtual infrastructure.\nResolve incidents, service requests, and operational issues.\nTroubleshoot and remediate platform performance and availability.\nParticipate in on-call and major incident support.\nManage and maintain Cisco UCS infrastructure, including Fabric Interconnects, servers, service profiles, and networking.\nAdminister the Cisco Intersight environment to monitor health, compliance, and inventory.\nPerform firmware upgrades, hardware lifecycle management, and coordinate vendor support.\nRole particulars\nLocation and office arrangements: Canberra, Melbourne\nSalary: AU$100,103 - AU$113,251 per annum, plus 15.4% superannuation\nTenure & work schedule: Indefinite, Full time (Hybrid working available)\nReference: 104238\nAs the successful candidate, you will bring:\nEssential criteria\nTertiary qualification in Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.\nDemonstrated experience in Cisco UCS server hardware infrastructure management.\nDemonstrated knowledge and experience in the VMware virtualisation suite.\nExperience in programming, scripting, or infrastructure orchestration.\nExperience in Linux and Windows server administration.\nDemonstrated experience with VMware vSphere, VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), and associated infrastructure services.\nDemonstrated experience administering Windows and Linux server environments.\nDemonstrated experience in infrastructure automation and scripting using tools such as PowerShell, Terraform, or JavaScript.\nDemonstrated ability to monitor, troubleshoot, and perform performance analysis across infrastructure environments.\nDemonstrated knowledge of infrastructure security, hardening practices, and risk mitigation principles.\nDemonstrated understanding of backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity concepts and practices.\nStrong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.\nDemonstrated ability to work independently while effectively managing competing priorities and meeting deadlines.\nDemonstrated ability to build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships, supported by strong written and verbal communication skills.\nDemonstrated commitment to collaboration, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing.\nDemonstrated customer-focused approach to service delivery, with a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes.\nFor full details about this role, and other criteria, please review the Position Description.\nNot sure if you meet all the criteria?\nWhile it is CSIRO policy that the successful candidate must meet all the essential criteria, there are many ways to demonstrate this.
